Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteYou can generate an ER diagram from an existing database by connecting a database tool to the live system or, where supported, importing a schema script. Choose the database or schema scope, generate the diagram, then verify its foreign-key lines and readability. The result maps metadata the tool can see; it may not include relationships expressed only in application code.
Choose the diagram scope before you generate it
Decide whether you need a diagram of the whole database, one schema, or a smaller set of related tables. A whole-database view can become crowded, but narrowing the scope can hide relationships to objects outside it.
In pgAdmin, the database ERD includes tables from all schemas and plots foreign-key links. A schema-level ERD omits a link when the referenced table is in another schema, so use the database-level view when cross-schema relationships matter. pgAdmin ERD Tool documentation.
Pick a reverse-engineering workflow that matches your input
| Tool | Documented input and workflow | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| pgAdmin | Generate an ERD from a database, schema, or table; diagrams show tables and foreign-key links. | Useful for PostgreSQL workflows. Consider scope, especially cross-schema links, and the available save or export options. Documentation. |
| DBeaver | Open diagrams for existing tables or schemas, or create a custom visualization. | Confirm the driver supports your DBMS and its metadata. Diagrams are read-only by default; edit mode can convert schema edits to SQL for review and execution. Documentation. |
| MySQL Workbench | Reverse-engineer from a live MySQL server or import a MySQL create script to build a model. | For a live connection, its wizard supports filtering objects before import. Check which object types are included and how the model lays out at your scale. Live-server documentation and create-script documentation. |
These documented workflows are not evidence that every tool or driver supports every database product equally. Compare DBMS support, live connection versus DDL input, object coverage, cross-schema handling, export and layout, and whether edits can produce executable SQL.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Generate the diagram
- Identify the database and input. Confirm the DBMS, then choose a live connection or a supported schema/create script.
- Select the intended objects. Set the database, schema, table, or object filters to match the scope you chose. For a large database, begin with a manageable connected subset if you are exploring.
- Run the reverse-engineering or diagram action. In MySQL Workbench, use the live-server reverse-engineering wizard for a connection, or import a MySQL create script to build a model. In pgAdmin, generate an ERD for the chosen database, schema, or table. In DBeaver, open a diagram for existing tables or a schema.
- Arrange and preserve the result. Use the tool’s layout and save or export options to create a diagram that can be revisited and read at the needed level of detail.
Exact controls and labels can vary by product version. Consult the linked product documentation for the current workflow in your installation.
Validate relationships and coverage
Treat the diagram as a view of imported metadata, not a complete specification of application behavior. Check whether the selected scope and filters include the tables you expect, and whether declared foreign-key constraints appear as relationship lines. If the application relies on naming conventions or relationships coded outside the database without declared foreign keys, those links may not appear; validate them against application behavior or documentation.

A missing line can also reflect scope rather than absent data relationships. In particular, pgAdmin’s schema-level view removes links to tables in other schemas. Recheck the database-level diagram when cross-schema links are relevant.
Handle large diagrams without losing useful detail
MySQL Workbench documentation warns that importing 250 or more objects may fail to create an EER diagram through automatic placement. Its suggested workarounds are to select fewer objects or create a diagram manually before importing objects. This is a documented Workbench behavior, not a general capacity limit for ERD tools. If a diagram is too crowded to inspect, split it into meaningful subsets, such as related tables or a schema, while checking that the narrower view has not omitted cross-schema references.
Keep exploration separate from schema changes
Viewing a diagram does not require changing the database. In DBeaver, diagrams are read-only by default; edit mode can translate schema edits into SQL that may be reviewed and executed. Review generated SQL before applying it, and keep diagramming separate from schema changes unless you intend to modify the database.
