Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallTo restore a file from an online backup, sign in to the provider account that holds its backup, then use the service’s Recycle Bin or Trash for deleted files, or its version history or dated backup snapshot for an older copy. Choose a restore destination, then open the recovered file to confirm it is the right version before replacing anything. Recovery windows and steps vary by service, so start with the provider and account that backed up the file.
Choose the right recovery route
A deleted file and an overwritten file usually require different recovery tools. A Recycle Bin or Trash is the first place to look for a deleted item. If the file still exists but you need an older copy, use version history. If the service backs up a computer at intervals, select a dated snapshot from when the file was present.
Cloud storage and a computer’s local Recycle Bin or Trash are not always the same. Microsoft says files deleted from OneDrive online—including online-only files—may not appear in the computer’s local bin; check the OneDrive or SharePoint web recycle bin instead. Microsoft’s OneDrive recovery guidance explains the available routes.
Restore a file: the general steps
- Identify the account and service. Sign in to the provider account and check that the missing file was included in that account’s synced or backed-up data. If you use several accounts or devices, make sure you have the right one.
- Look in the right recovery area. For deletion, search the provider’s Recycle Bin or Trash. For an earlier or overwritten copy, open the file’s version history or choose a backup date when the file existed.
- Select the file and destination. Check whether the action restores one item or rolls back a larger set of data. For an account-wide restore, confirm its date and scope before proceeding.
- Download or restore the file. If the service offers a choice, select a destination with enough free space. Avoid overwriting the current copy until you have checked the recovered one.
- Verify the result. Open the restored file, confirm it is the intended version, and keep a separate copy if it is important.
Recover deleted or older files in OneDrive
Restore a deleted item
On the OneDrive website, sign in, select Recycle bin, choose the file or folder, and select Restore. Microsoft’s current guidance says deleted items remain recoverable for 30 days in personal OneDrive accounts and 93 days in work or school accounts, unless an administrator has changed the retention setting. Items permanently deleted from the OneDrive recycle bin cannot be restored through this route. See Microsoft’s OneDrive instructions.

Retrieve an earlier version
For an individual file, use its version history to find and restore an earlier copy. Microsoft 365 subscribers can also use OneDrive’s restore feature to roll the entire OneDrive back to a point in the previous 30 days. That is broader than recovering one file: review the restore date and scope before applying it. The same Microsoft support page describes both options.
Find deleted or previous versions in Backblaze Computer Backup
Sign in to Backblaze and open View/Restore Files. To find a deleted or removed file, set the To date to a time when the file existed, leave From at Beginning of Backup, and browse the file tree. Adjusting the date range can also surface an earlier version. Backblaze’s instructions for deleted and previous versions say the default version history is 30 days; one-year and forever histories are paid extensions. If the backed-up computer continues contacting Backblaze after a file, folder, or drive is no longer available, its already-backed-up data is retained during that default period.

Restore files through IDrive
IDrive has separate areas for computer backup and Cloud Drive sync. Check the area that contains the file; the recovery path differs.
Computer backup: deleted files and previous versions
For a previous backup version in the web interface, sign in, open Cloud Backup, use the file’s version control, select the version, then choose to make it current or download it. For a deleted file, open More > Trash, select the item, and choose Put Back to return it to its original location in the IDrive account. IDrive says Trash items are automatically deleted after 30 days. Its web FAQ describes these steps.

Quick Recap
If the file is missing from the recovery list
- Check the account and device. A file may have been synced or backed up under a different account or computer.
- Check the date or version selection. A snapshot may be set to a time after the file disappeared, or a version list may not show the copy you need.
- Check the retention window. The item may have expired from Trash or version history, or been permanently deleted.
- Confirm the file was backed up. If it was never included in the backup or finished syncing, the service may not have a copy to restore.
- For a shared OneDrive file, check with its owner. Microsoft says you cannot restore through your own account’s recovery process a file located in another person’s OneDrive. See Microsoft’s OneDrive guidance.
