If you mean Cesbo Astra, restart the enabled stream with Astra’s control API: send POST /control/ with {"cmd":"restart-stream","id":"YOUR_STREAM_ID"}. Then check Astra’s runtime status and YouTube Live Control Room separately. Restarting Astra does not guarantee that YouTube will reopen a broadcast event that has ended.
Before you restart: confirm which Astra and which stream
“Astra” can refer to different products. The API steps here apply to Cesbo Astra, whose official Streams API documentation describes the restart-stream command. The available instructions do not specify a particular Astra version or deployment, so confirm that your installation exposes this API before using the request.
Find the configured stream ID and verify that it belongs to the output feeding the YouTube broadcast you need to recover. Astra’s stream methods use this ID; restarting the wrong stream will not restore the intended YouTube feed.
Restart an enabled Astra stream through the API
- Send a control request. Use an account with control permission and replace
a001with the correct stream ID:POST /control/ Content-Type: application/json {"cmd":"restart-stream","id":"a001"} - Read Astra’s response. A successful command response is
{"restart-stream":"ok"}. An unknown ID returns an error. - Check the stream’s runtime state. Use Astra’s documented
check-streamoperation for the running stream. Its status can show whether it isonair, the active input, and the last analyzer sample for each input, including bitrate and error counters.
Astra documents that “An enabled stream is stopped and started again from its stored configuration.” The command does not alter that configuration or notify clients. If the stream is disabled, it remains disabled—even if the response says ok. A disabled or non-running stream returns “stream not found” when checked with check-stream. If Astra restarted but YouTube is still offline
Treat Astra’s transport status and YouTube’s broadcast event status as separate checks. A command response confirms the API accepted the operation; it does not by itself prove that viewers can see the broadcast.
1. Confirm Astra is carrying the stream
Check the runtime status, including onair, the active input, and its latest bitrate and error-counter sample. If Astra reports no running stream, confirm that the stream is enabled and that the ID is correct before investigating YouTube.

2. Verify the YouTube encoder connection
YouTube’s encoder workflow uses a stream URL and stream key. Check that the encoder configured in your setup has the correct URL and current key; if you reset the key, update it in the encoder. Keep the key private: do not paste it into support requests, public logs, screenshots, or articles. YouTube explains encoder setup and stream settings in its live streaming encoder instructions.

Inspect the broadcast’s current state and its auto-start and auto-stop settings in YouTube Live Control Room. YouTube documents that these settings affect whether encoder actions can start or stop streaming for an event. If the event has ended, the Astra restart documentation does not establish that restarting the encoder feed will reopen it. Confirm the event state in YouTube rather than assuming an Astra restart can revive it. See YouTube’s encoder and stream-setting guidance.
