You can reset an iPhone’s network settings without using the command that erases your personal content. Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings, then confirm that exact option. Do not select Erase All Content and Settings.
What Reset Network Settings changes
Apple’s iPhone User Guide says settings can be returned to their defaults without erasing content. That reassurance applies to the specific Reset Network Settings option; it does not mean every network connection or configuration stays in place. - Previously used Wi-Fi networks and their passwords are removed, and the iPhone disconnects from its current Wi-Fi network. Wi-Fi and Ask to Join Networks remain enabled.
- Non-profile and non-MDM VPN settings may be removed. Cellular, VPN, and APN settings can also be affected.
- The device name in Settings > General > About resets to “iPhone.” Manually trusted certificates may become untrusted, and cellular data roaming may be turned off.
- Settings supplied by a configuration profile or mobile-device management (MDM) are handled separately; the reset may not remove or restore those managed settings.
Apple’s support guidance describes network reset effects in general terms, and behavior can vary with iOS version and managed configuration. Reset network settings on iPhone
- Open Settings.
- Tap General, then Transfer or Reset iPhone.
- Tap Reset, then choose Reset Network Settings.
- Follow the on-screen confirmation. Check the option name before proceeding; do not choose Erase All Content and Settings.
After the reset, reconnect to Wi-Fi by selecting the network and entering its password. If you use a VPN or rely on a manually trusted certificate, you may need to configure it again.

Reset Network Settings or erase the iPhone?

What to try before resetting
Apple advises resetting network settings only after other solutions fail. Check these first:

- Make sure Wi-Fi is on and Airplane Mode is off.
- See whether the problem affects one Wi-Fi network or several.
- Check that the router is powered on, within range, and compatible; check for router firmware updates.
- Restart the router and modem where appropriate.
- If you use VPN or security software, investigate whether it is interfering with the connection.

- Connected to Wi-Fi, but no internet: contact your internet service provider (ISP). If other devices also cannot get online, check whether there is an ISP outage.
