Choose the reset that matches the problem: reboot the robot for a temporary glitch, reset Wi-Fi when its network connection needs to be set up again, and use a factory reset only when you intend to erase saved settings. There is no universal button sequence. Find the exact model number and follow that model’s official instructions before pressing a reset combination.
Which type of reset does your robot vacuum need?
“Reset” can mean several different things. Their effects are not interchangeable, and manufacturers may use different procedures even for models in the same product family.

These are examples from the cited manufacturers, not an industry-wide standard. Check your model’s support page to confirm what its reset affects.
Before you press a reset button
- Identify the exact model. Check the label on the robot or its app. Do not rely on the brand alone: Roborock publishes different factory-reset procedures for its general covered models, the S5, and the E2, E3, E4, and E5.
- Decide what you are trying to fix. For a temporary glitch, start with a reboot if the manufacturer recommends it. If the problem is the network, look for the model’s Wi-Fi reset. Reserve a factory reset for situations where its broader effects are acceptable.
- Check what will be erased. Read the official instructions for your model before proceeding, especially if you want to keep maps, schedules, preferences, or cleaning history.
- Use only the matching procedure. Do not try button combinations from another model, even one from the same manufacturer.
How to reboot a robot vacuum
A reboot restarts the robot without necessarily restoring factory settings. iRobot says a robot reboot can resolve many typical robot issues and describes it as a common way to clear an error after proper care and maintenance. Its guidance says rebooting does not delete maps, schedules, or preferences.

For newer iRobot models, the support instructions include an in-app reboot path. Manual reboot steps use the CLEAN or POWER button on some models, with the hold time varying; older non-Wi-Fi models use a different button sequence. Follow the steps for your specific robot and app rather than applying one timing or button combination to every Roomba or Braava. See iRobot’s reboot instructions for Roomba and Braava models.
How to reset Wi-Fi without restoring factory settings
Choose a Wi-Fi reset when the problem is the connection—for example, if you need to reconnect after a network or router change. This is distinct from a factory restore. Eufy lists Wi-Fi reset procedures by RoboVac family, so use the instructions for the exact series rather than guessing which buttons to hold: Eufy’s RoboVac Wi-Fi reset instructions.
Eufy’s L70 Hybrid guidance separately explains when to reset Wi-Fi and when to restore factory settings. That distinction is useful, but its button steps apply to the L70 Hybrid and should not be reused for other RoboVac models. Read Eufy’s L70 Hybrid guidance if that is your model.

A factory reset can remove data you may want to keep. The effects differ by model. For the Roborock models covered by its general factory-reset article, restoring factory defaults disconnects Wi-Fi and deletes settings such as schedules, cleaning logs including maps, and other saved information; the firmware returns to the version installed at manufacture. Roborock’s E2, E3, E4, and E5 guidance also warns that Wi-Fi, settings, schedules, maps, and cleaning logs are affected, while noting that some aggregate totals are retained.

Roborock’s S5 instructions warn that Wi-Fi is disconnected and firmware reverts to the factory version. Eufy’s L70 Hybrid guidance frames its factory reset for a robot that does not respond to the top buttons or is stuck with an error. These examples are model-specific; consult the official support instructions for your robot before restoring it.

The following examples show why there is no safe universal sequence. Use a procedure only if your robot is one of the models named in the linked manufacturer instructions.
Roborock E2, E3, E4, and E5
Roborock instructs owners of these named models to hold Power, Spot Cleaning, and Recharge together for 10–15 seconds, until the power button blinks and the robot gives a voice prompt. Wait for the robot to restart. The manufacturer warns that Wi-Fi, settings, schedules, maps, and cleaning logs are affected, although some aggregate totals remain. Other Roborock models covered by the general procedure
For the models covered by its general article, Roborock says to hold Home, press the reset button near the Wi-Fi LED once with a pin while continuing to hold Home, and keep holding until the robot signals that restoration is underway. The manufacturer says this disconnects Wi-Fi and deletes settings, schedules, cleaning logs, and maps; firmware returns to the version installed at manufacture. Check Roborock’s general factory-reset instructions to confirm that your model is covered.

Roborock S5
The S5 has a separate procedure: hold Recharge, press the reset button next to the Wi-Fi LED, and continue holding Recharge until the robot signals restoration. Roborock warns that Wi-Fi is disconnected and firmware reverts to the factory version. Follow the Roborock S5 instructions only for that model.
Eufy L70 Hybrid
For an L70 Hybrid that does not respond to its top buttons or is stuck with an error, Eufy says to remove it from its charging base, press its Reset button with a clip, then dock the robot or press Start/Pause to finish the reset. This sequence is specific to the L70 Hybrid; consult Eufy’s L70 Hybrid instructions.
What to do after a factory reset
If the manufacturer says the reset disconnects Wi-Fi, reconnect or re-add the robot using the app’s setup instructions for your model. Then restore any settings or schedules you still need. Do not assume the robot will retain its map or preferences: check the model-specific reset guidance for what was deleted.
