To erase a MetroPCS Samsung Galaxy, back up your data, then go to Settings > General management > Reset > Factory data reset and follow the confirmation prompts. A factory reset deletes personal data on the phone, and it does not unlock the device or activate Metro service. If you only have a connectivity problem, try resetting network settings instead.
Choose the reset that matches the problem
Samsung offers several actions called “reset,” but they have different effects. Choose the least destructive option that addresses the issue.

Before you factory-reset the phone
- Back up anything you want to keep. Save photos, videos, documents, messages, and other important information somewhere you can access after the reset. Samsung says a factory data reset removes personal data from the device. Samsung’s factory-reset guide
- Check account access. Make sure you know the Google account previously registered on the phone and your Samsung account credentials. Google Factory Reset Protection (FRP) may require verification of an account previously registered on the device before setup can continue. Samsung’s US troubleshooting guidance
- Keep the phone plugged into a wall charger if practical. Samsung recommends this during the reset and says the process may take up to an hour; that is a possible upper duration, not a typical-time estimate or guarantee. You do not need to buy a new charger if you already have one compatible with your phone. Samsung’s guidance
Factory-reset a Samsung Galaxy from Settings
- Open Settings > General management > Reset > Factory data reset.
- Review the information on screen about what will be erased, then tap Reset.
- Confirm by tapping Delete all or the equivalent prompt, and allow the phone to restart.
- Follow the setup screens. If prompted, verify with the Google account previously registered on the phone and your Samsung account credentials.
Samsung notes that menu names and screens may vary by model and software version. If the path differs, search Settings for “Factory data reset.” The exact confirmation wording can also vary by model, software version, and service provider. Samsung’s instructions and Samsung’s reset guidance
If you cannot verify the phone after resetting
Do not assume that another reset will bypass Factory Reset Protection. Samsung says setup may require a Google account that was previously registered on the device; Samsung or Google credentials may also be needed during reset or initial setup. If the account owner cannot sign in, use Samsung’s official troubleshooting guidance and account-recovery or support options rather than attempting to bypass the protection.

Will a factory reset unlock or activate a MetroPCS phone?
No. A factory reset erases data on the phone; it does not remove a carrier lock, determine service eligibility, correct Metro account status, or activate a SIM. Metro’s activation information says activation requires a network-unlocked compatible phone and a Metro SIM or an eSIM-capable device. Metro activation and Metro’s bring-your-own-phone information
Unlocking follows Metro’s separate phone-unlock policy. The policy page states a 365-day period since activation as an eligibility criterion and provides the applicable conditions and exceptions; check that page for current terms rather than treating a reset as an unlock method. If Metro service still does not work afterward
A reset may not fix a problem that comes from the SIM, account, activation, network coverage, or carrier settings. If calls, texts, mobile data, hotspot, or signal still fail after basic troubleshooting, Samsung advises contacting the carrier. For Metro network and customer-support channels, use Metro Support.
