To turn a livestream into useful videos and Shorts, keep the original recording, use an AI clip finder or transcript editor to suggest moments, then review and edit every clip before publishing. AI can speed up selection, captions, and vertical formatting; it does not establish that a clip is accurate, self-contained, or cleared for use.
How to turn a livestream into Shorts or Reels
- Preserve the full recording. Keep an unedited copy so you can restore context or choose different in and out points later. If you are planning a future broadcast, you can signal a moment you may want to reuse; StreamYard documents saying “Clip that” during a broadcast as a marker for later suggestions. This is specific to that workflow, not a universal AI-tool command.
- Generate candidate clips. Use an AI clip finder or transcript-based editor to suggest moments from the recording. For example, StreamYard says its AI Clips analyzes recordings and generates vertical 9:16 clips with captions and a title; its help page also describes text prompts and recordings up to six hours. These are documented product capabilities, not guarantees for every plan or recording.
- Review the whole thought, not just the hook. Keep a candidate only if it makes one point, includes enough setup to be understood, reaches a useful payoff, and retains any qualification that changes the meaning. Check names, technical terms, and claims against the original. The available product documentation describes suggestions and editing features, but does not establish an independent accuracy rate for finding the “best” moments.
- Trim and reframe. Set the in and out points to remove dead air without cutting off a question, response, demonstration, or qualification. Inspect the vertical crop for the relevant face, action, slides, and labels. StreamYard documents a 9:16 publishing method that fills the space above and below the video with a blurred version of its frame; its described publishing flow does not offer zooming or recentering. That is one product’s behavior, not a requirement for vertical video.
- Correct captions and titles. Listen while reading the captions, especially for names, specialist vocabulary, and words that reverse a sentence’s meaning. Edit errors and make sure captions do not hide a face, demonstration, or essential text. StreamYard documents generated captions and editing or customization in its short-form workflow; this is a tool feature, not a promise of perfect transcription.
- Export for the destination and check rights. Confirm the output’s aspect ratio, duration, and any platform-specific requirements before upload. Check that you have permission to reuse any music, video, or other third-party material. YouTube warns that externally created uploads containing copyright-protected material without approval may receive a Content ID claim or a removal request.
How long can a YouTube Short be?
As of YouTube Help’s documentation retrieved October 3, 2026, square or vertical videos up to three minutes uploaded after October 15, 2024 can be categorized as Shorts for standard channels. A tool’s export limit is separate from YouTube’s eligibility rule. StreamYard’s publishing help describes short-form clips of up to 60 seconds in its own workflow; that limit should not be presented as YouTube’s maximum. Its publishing article lists YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, Facebook Reels, LinkedIn Profiles, and TikTok as destinations. Check current product and platform requirements when you export, since both can change.

Which AI tool can find clips in a livestream?
Choose by where the recording lives and how much editing control you need, rather than assuming one tool finds better moments. The available descriptions are primarily vendor documentation, not a controlled comparison of accuracy, speed, or audience results.

Copyright and final checks before publishing
- Check music and other third-party material in the original recording. YouTube says externally created uploads using protected material without approval may receive a Content ID claim or removal request.
- Play the exported clip from beginning to end. Make sure the crop preserves who is speaking or what is being demonstrated, and captions match the audio.
- Confirm the length and shape against the destination’s current rules. YouTube’s eligibility rule and an editing tool’s own export limit are different constraints.
- Review the clip without relying on its title or auto-generated captions. If the cut makes a qualified statement sound absolute, restore context or choose another moment.
