The right steps depend on your thermostat model and the task. For app-managed settings, open Temperature → settings gear → select your thermostat. Use the legacy FAN-button instructions below only if your thermostat is the GC-TBZ48.
Choose the right instructions for your thermostat and task
Before changing anything, identify the thermostat model and decide what you need to change. App settings, schedules, the clock, HVAC setup, and factory defaults are separate tasks; one set of button presses does not apply to every Vivint thermostat.
- Current app settings: Use the Vivint Smart Home app path below for the options shown for your device.
- Schedule: Use the schedule controls available for your app and panel generation. The exact schedule-edit steps are not established in the current instructions described here.
- Clock or HVAC configuration: The on-device directions below apply specifically to the legacy GC-TBZ48.
- Element V2: Use its current app options or instructions matching the model; do not assume the GC-TBZ48 procedure applies.
Vivint identifies Element V2 as model VS-ELEM02-001 and says it supports over-the-air software updates and works with SkyControl and Hub panels running firmware 3.19.3 or newer. That compatibility detail does not make it the same thermostat as the GC-TBZ48.
Change settings in the Vivint Smart Home app
- Tap the Temperature icon to open the thermostat main screen.
- Tap the settings gear in the upper-right corner.
- Select the thermostat you want to adjust.
- Customize the options shown, such as Mode, Fan, States, and Notifications.
These steps open general thermostat settings; they do not establish a complete schedule-edit sequence. If you want to change a schedule, look for the matching schedule controls in your app or consult Vivint’s instructions for your specific model and panel generation. Vivint’s thermostat FAQ describes Smart Comfort automation and manual scheduling, but the labels and available controls may depend on your setup.

Edit a schedule without confusing it with other settings
A schedule sets temperatures for times or periods. It is different from changing the current setpoint, changing the clock, or changing the system’s HVAC configuration. Vivint’s older Classic App instructions cover adjusting temperature and mode and enabling or disabling preset schedules. The support listing also names a Go!Control Online Access article called “Edit Thermostat Schedules,” but the available instructions do not establish its full sequence of taps.
Use the schedule controls presented for your installed app and panel. If you cannot find them, consult Vivint’s support instructions that match your thermostat and panel generation rather than following an assumed universal sequence. Older Classic App or Go!Control Online Access directions should not be treated as current Smart Home app instructions.

Change HVAC configuration only when you know the installed system
On a GC-TBZ48, the SYSTEM menu configures the thermostat for the equipment in the home. Its documented preset is standard gas/electric, gas heat fan, one heating stage, and one cooling stage. The guide says to change SYSTEM settings when the installation uses a heat pump or another configuration.
Available settings include HVAC type—standard gas/electric or heat pump—fan type, and, for heat pumps, changeover valve type. Do not guess at these settings: a mismatch can cause poor operation. If you cannot identify the system or its wiring, ask a qualified HVAC professional or Vivint support for model-specific guidance instead of changing configuration.

Do not use factory defaults for a routine schedule change
The GC-TBZ48 guide describes a Restore Defaults option under advanced settings, with Yes to restore or No to exit. Restoring defaults is materially different from changing a schedule or setpoint. The available instructions do not specify every effect for every installation, so do not select it unless you intend to clear configuration and understand the consequences for your system.

Vivint’s FAQ says its thermostat is compatible with most low-voltage systems, including conventional forced-air, heat pump, auxiliary/emergency heat, and multi-zone systems, with one thermostat per zone. It recommends a C wire for continuous power when available; without one, the FAQ says the thermostat can operate using four AA batteries and reports typical battery life of 1 to 2 years. This FAQ-level guidance does not replace checking the exact thermostat model and HVAC wiring.

For the GC-TBZ48 specifically, the guide says power can come from 24 VAC when R and C wires are available, or from four AA batteries. For battery operation, it instructs users to use alkaline cells and replace all four together. These battery instructions are not a recommendation for Element V2.
