To remove a sold property from an FFmpeg-powered YouTube Live rotation, remove its file from the local concat list, check the remaining paths, and restart or use a verified reload procedure for the encoder. Do not assume that editing the list makes an already-running FFmpeg process reread it: the reviewed FFmpeg documentation does not promise live updates to an open concat input. A restart may interrupt viewers, so test your exact workflow before changing a production stream.
First, identify which playlist you mean
“Playlist” can refer to different parts of a YouTube Live setup. The right file to change depends on which one your workflow actually uses.

For a typical FFmpeg setup that reads a local concat list and sends media to YouTube, remove the sold property’s entry from that local list. YouTube’s Live Streaming API treats broadcasts and streams as separate resources; neither is the same thing as FFmpeg’s local input list.

1. Check what is playing
Look at the FFmpeg log or your operator dashboard to identify the current clip and confirm that the sold property’s file is the one you intend to remove. Consider whether restarting the encoder will cause a viewer-visible gap. Keep the original file and a copy of the existing list available until the update is confirmed.

2. Remove the sold property’s entry
Edit the local concat list used by the active FFmpeg command. Remove the sold property’s entry, preserve the desired order of the remaining entries, and keep the syntax consistent with the concat demuxer format already in use. FFmpeg documents the concat demuxer and related methods in its FAQ and concat demuxer documentation.
Do not substitute a different concat method just to remove one item. FFmpeg’s FAQ distinguishes the concat demuxer, filter, and protocol; which one fits depends on the existing command and whether re-encoding is required.

3. Verify every remaining path and file
- Check that each remaining file exists and is readable by the user running FFmpeg.
- Keep paths compatible with the working directory and the list’s existing format. The concat demuxer’s
safeoption defaults to1, which rejects unsafe paths and directives; prefer suitable relative paths in a trusted working directory rather than disabling this safeguard casually. - Confirm that the list contains only the clips intended for the next rotation.
4. Restart or use a verified reload method
If the running application has a documented reload mechanism, use it only after confirming how it applies changes to this specific input. Otherwise, restart the FFmpeg input or process with the revised list. Preserve the existing YouTube broadcast configuration where your ingest workflow permits; consult the relevant LiveStreams and LiveBroadcasts API documentation if your process manages those resources.
An edit to the list file alone is not evidence that an open concat input has reread it. The reviewed documentation does not establish that behavior, so a restart or tested reload is the predictable route.

5. Confirm the new rotation
Watch the FFmpeg output and YouTube stream health after applying the change. Confirm FFmpeg opens the intended next file and that the sold property’s clip no longer appears in the rotation. Retain the removed file temporarily so you can restore it if another entry fails.
6. Test before making the change live
Try the same update with a non-sale clip in a test run before relying on it during a live property rotation. Check the local documentation for the installed FFmpeg version as well: the online FFmpeg documentation tracks the newest revision, which may not match your build.

If your workflow uses YouTube HLS ingestion
Do not edit an HLS media playlist when FFmpeg is actually reading a local concat list, and do not treat local concat-list rules as HLS rules. If your encoder does send HLS to YouTube, follow Google’s HLS ingestion guide for playlist and segment construction.

For live HLS playlists, RFC 8216 also requires an EXT-X-MEDIA-SEQUENCE tag when media segments are removed: increment the sequence value for each removed segment and remove segments in their displayed order. These requirements apply to HLS media playlists, not to FFmpeg’s local concat input list.
