Start by writing down the full error message and code shown when VALORANT fails to launch. If it begins with VAN, use Riot’s instructions for that specific Vanguard error first; a reinstall is not the right fix for every VAN code. If the error-specific steps do not resolve the problem, Riot’s Windows uninstall-and-reinstall process is the next software-focused option.
Identify the error before changing anything
Note the exact text and code, not just that the game will not open. Riot separates its Vanguard error-code guidance from general launch troubleshooting and restriction guidance. Its launch troubleshooting directs players who see a VAN-prefixed error to the matching Vanguard instructions: Riot’s VALORANT launch troubleshooting and Vanguard error-code instructions.
Follow the steps for the exact code before attempting broader system changes. Different codes can point to different Vanguard or Windows configuration issues. Do not change BIOS, TPM, Secure Boot, or other security settings unless the instructions for your code call for it.

Uninstall and reinstall Vanguard through Windows
Riot’s published Windows procedure is to uninstall Vanguard through Windows, restart the PC, then reinstall the Riot game through Riot’s website or client. The exact interface steps are in Riot’s Vanguard uninstall instructions. They are currently available here in Thai; the English help page redirected to a general support landing page during retrieval, so English menu labels are not verified here. Close the Riot Client if it is open. If Windows requests a restart after uninstalling, restart before reinstalling.

- Restart the PC after the uninstall.
- Reinstall the Riot game from Riot’s website or through the Riot Client, as directed by Riot.
Use Riot’s clean VALORANT reinstall if a basic reinstall is not enough
Riot’s VALORANT-specific clean reinstall procedure removes VALORANT and Riot Client folders, along with their corresponding local app-data folders, then restarts before installing again. Follow the exact folder list in Riot’s VALORANT reinstall guidance; do not delete similarly named or unrelated folders. Removing these files clears local game files and cache, so the game must be downloaded again.
- Follow Riot’s clean reinstall article to remove the specified VALORANT and Riot Client folders and corresponding local app-data folders.
- Restart Windows when the specified files have been removed.
- Install VALORANT again from Riot’s official website or client.
If VALORANT still will not start
Use Riot Support’s VALORANT support page to submit a ticket. Include the exact error text and code, and attach relevant logs if the current support form requests them. Riot maintains separate help for Vanguard errors and restrictions, so identify which message you are seeing rather than describing the issue only as a failed launch.
