To remove your own listing from Whitepages, find the profile that matches you, copy its exact web address, submit that address through Whitepages’ suppression-request form, choose a reason, and confirm the request with a phone verification code. Processing time is not fixed. Recent guides report anywhere from a few hours to about two weeks, and removing one listing does not stop your information from appearing elsewhere or from reappearing on Whitepages later.
Why it is worth doing
People-search sites such as Whitepages compile public-record and other data into profiles that anyone can find by typing a name. A profile can show a current or past address, a phone number, and details about relatives or former residences. Removing your listing reduces how easily a stranger, a former acquaintance, or someone searching for you through a people-search engine can find that information in one place.
The removal is worth doing, but it is a reduction rather than a cure. Section 4 below explains why the listing can return and what else you may need to check.

- A browser and a way to search Whitepages. You will need to find your own profile by name and location.
- A phone that can receive a call. The online process includes an automated verification call that gives you a code. If you cannot receive that call on the number you enter, the request cannot be completed through this route.
- Your full name and the city or state where you lived when the listing was created. Common names return several records, so you will need these details to pick the right one.
- Realistic expectations about the form. Whitepages’ own help page and suppression form could not be checked directly for this guide. The steps below reflect how recent third-party walkthroughs describe the process. Labels and layout can change, so follow the on-screen instructions wherever they differ.
The five steps
- Search for your name and location on Whitepages and open the matching listing. Check the age range, city, and relatives shown against what you know about yourself. If several people share your name, open each candidate and confirm the match before going further.
- Copy the complete URL of that listing. Copy it from the address bar, including everything after the domain name. Selecting the wrong record here is the most common reason a request goes to the wrong profile, so compare the URL with the page once more before you move on.
- Open Whitepages’ suppression-request form and paste in the listing URL. Continue, then confirm that the matching information displayed is yours and select the removal action.
- Choose a reason for the request and continue. Pick the option that best fits your situation from the list the form offers.
- Enter a phone number that can receive the automated verification call and follow the code prompt. Answer the call, note the code, enter it on the form, and finish. Keep any confirmation message or reference number the form displays.
What happens after you submit
Whitepages’ processing time is reported inconsistently. One recent guide says requests are often completed within hours and may take 24 to 72 hours. Another says formal privacy requests may take up to 15 days and are often processed sooner. Treat these as estimates from third-party guides, not a commitment from Whitepages. Do not plan around a specific date.

Check the listing again after the window you expect. If the profile is still visible, you can resubmit the same URL through the form and note the date of your first submission and any reference number.
Why one removal is not enough
Other people-search sites are separate
A removal from Whitepages does not mean other people-search sites have taken down their records. Each site collects and publishes data on its own terms, so each one needs its own search and its own request. Make a short list of the sites that show up when you search your name, and work through them one at a time.

The listing can return
One current guide warns that Whitepages may relist a person if it collects new data later. Your removal therefore does not guarantee that the profile stays gone. Norton’s consumer advice on personal data likewise recommends monitoring where your information appears and submitting removal requests whenever it reappears.

Search your name on Whitepages and on the other sites you have dealt with once every few months, and also after any move or change of phone number. A search takes minutes, and it is the only reliable way to notice a relisting early.

California residents: the DROP option
California residents can use the state’s free Delete Request and Opt-out Platform, called DROP, to send one deletion request to more than 600 registered data brokers. The figure of more than 600 registered brokers comes from the California Privacy Protection Agency’s DROP page, as accessed on October 7, 2026. The option is limited to California residents.
Two timing details matter. Starting August 1, 2026, brokers must access DROP at least once every 45 days to begin processing requests. Status updates inside DROP may take up to 90 days. The agency describes the platform this way: “DROP gives you more control over your data.”

The DROP page establishes the platform’s overall scope. It does not confirm that Whitepages participates as a registered broker, and it does not guarantee that any particular Whitepages record will be removed. Use DROP as a broader step alongside the direct Whitepages request, not as a replacement for it. Check the DROP registry for the current list of brokers before you assume a specific site is covered.

Most readers should start with the direct Whitepages request because it targets the listing they found. California residents can add DROP to cover brokers beyond Whitepages.

If the listing stays or comes back
- The profile is still visible after the expected window. Confirm that you submitted the URL of the correct record. If you submitted the wrong one, start again with the right URL.
- The form stops before completion. Check that the phone number is able to receive the automated call and that you entered the code exactly as displayed.
- The listing reappears. Submit a new request with the new URL. Keep a record of each submission so you can show the history if the problem continues.
- Your information shows up on a different people-search site. Request removal from that site separately, using its own process.
- You want help covering many sites. Paid data-removal services exist, but this guide does not assess any provider’s coverage, pricing, or terms. Confirm exactly which sites a service covers before you pay.
