To remove your webcam background with NVIDIA’s software, turn on Background Removal in NVIDIA Broadcast, then select Camera (NVIDIA Broadcast) in your video-call or streaming app. Broadcast creates a processed camera feed; selecting that virtual camera is what sends the effect to the other app.
Check whether your PC is compatible
NVIDIA’s listed requirements include a 64-bit version of Windows 10, at least 8 GB of RAM, and a compatible RTX-class GPU. The listed GPUs are GeForce RTX 2060, Quadro RTX 3000, TITAN RTX, or higher. NVIDIA also lists a recommended Intel Core i5 8600 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600 processor, or higher. Confirm the current requirements on NVIDIA’s Broadcast product page before installing or buying hardware, because vendor requirements can change.
NVIDIA specifies a Studio Driver R570, Game Ready Driver R570, or RTX Enterprise Driver R570 and above on its product page. Its FAQ also says driver 570.xx or higher is required. Internet access is needed during installation so the app can download the AI models for your GPU. See NVIDIA’s Broadcast FAQ.
Install NVIDIA Broadcast and enable the effect
- Download and install Broadcast. Get the installer from NVIDIA’s official Broadcast page. Allow the installer to access the internet so it can download the required AI models.
- Open Broadcast and choose your camera input. Select the webcam you want to use in the app’s camera controls.
- Enable a background effect. Turn on Background Removal to remove the visible background. Choose Background Replacement to put a different background behind you, or Background Blur to soften the existing one. NVIDIA describes these as webcam effects in its product information.
- Check the preview. Look at the processed image in Broadcast before joining a call or starting a stream. NVIDIA’s setup guide explains the webcam preview and before-and-after comparison.
Select the NVIDIA Broadcast camera in your call or streaming app
Broadcast’s effect is applied to its virtual camera feed. In the target application, open its camera or video settings and select Camera (NVIDIA Broadcast) rather than the physical webcam. The label and location of the setting vary by application. NVIDIA’s setup guide describes selecting Broadcast virtual devices in video-conferencing and streaming apps.

Preview your video in the target application as well. If the image there does not show the effect, check that its camera source is the NVIDIA Broadcast camera and that the effect is enabled in Broadcast.
What to do if background removal does not appear
- The other app shows the unprocessed webcam: Open its camera settings and change the source from the physical webcam to Camera (NVIDIA Broadcast).
- The NVIDIA Broadcast camera is unavailable: Confirm Broadcast is installed and open, and that the intended webcam is selected as its input. Check NVIDIA’s current setup guidance and support information if the virtual device still does not appear.
- The app will not install or an effect is unavailable: Recheck the operating system, GPU, memory, and driver against NVIDIA’s current requirements. Make sure the computer has internet access during installation for the GPU-specific models.
- The cutout does not look right in every frame: Inspect the Broadcast preview and adjust your position or scene if needed. NVIDIA’s cited product and setup information does not guarantee perfect edges in every lighting, movement, or hair condition.
What NVIDIA Background Removal does—and does not do
Background Removal is a live webcam effect in NVIDIA Broadcast. It processes the camera feed for use in another app through the Broadcast virtual camera; it is not a method for removing a background from a still image. NVIDIA’s current product page search result contains conflicting version text—2.2.0 in feature text and 2.2.1 in its information block—so check NVIDIA’s download or release information rather than relying on an exact version number.
