There is no universal “remove powered by” snippet: the right method depends on which platform or script adds the credit. Identify the vendor first, then use its settings or documented option. If you mean Powered by Shopify, follow the Shopify steps below; for a Netlify badge, use the project setting. Don’t delete unfamiliar third-party code until you have checked its settings and terms.
First, identify where the credit appears
“Powered by” might be footer text, a badge added to a hosted site, or a credit shown only in a developer console. Those are controlled in different places. Check the exact wording, the page or console where it appears, and which platform, theme, plugin, or script supplied it.
- Store footer: check the store theme’s content or footer settings.
- Hosted-site badge: check that project’s configuration in the hosting service.
- Console credit: check the script’s documentation for a vendor-specific option.
Remove “Powered by Shopify” from a store footer
Shopify documents two ways to remove its footer message: change the theme’s default content or edit the theme code. Start with the content editor.
Replace the default content value
- In Shopify admin, open the theme’s default content editor.
- Search for
powered. - In the Powered by Shopify field, enter a single space, then save.
- If the store is password-protected, also enter a single space in Powered by Shopify HTML, then save.
Remove the Liquid tag if the message remains
- Open the theme’s code editor.
- Open
sections/footer.liquid. - Find
{{ powered_by_link }}and delete that Liquid tag. - Save and check the storefront footer.

Turn off the Powered by Netlify badge
Netlify controls its badge separately for each project. In that project, go to Project configuration > General > Powered by Netlify badge and turn the setting off. Netlify says the badge script is injected on its edge servers; disabling it does not change the project’s source, build, or dependencies. Its documentation was updated August 19, 2026. Hide a script’s developer-console credit
Some vendors document a specific flag rather than a site-wide setting. For Aimtell, the documented option is _at.showCredit = false;, which hides its Powered By credit in the developer console. Use this only for Aimtell as documented; it is not a general-purpose command for other scripts. See Aimtell documentation.

For other scripts, check settings and version-specific instructions
Some source-editable products let you change the credit rather than remove it. XYZScripts says version 4.0 supports changing the label and link in Settings > Site Settings. For older versions, its instructions involve editing footer.php in views/layout and the copyright label in locale/en_US/labels.php. Check the documentation for your installed version before editing files. See XYZScripts Help.
Check permission and choose the least fragile method
Whether you may remove a credit depends on the product and its terms. Atlassian’s Data Center guidance says its customer terms do not allow customers to remove proprietary Atlassian attributions or notices present in its products. By contrast, WordPress plugin guidelines say powered-by or credit displays included in plugin code must be optional and default to not appearing on users’ front-facing websites.

Prefer a vendor-provided setting or documented flag over hiding a badge with CSS or changing generated vendor assets. A manual theme or source edit can be overwritten by an update, and an undocumented change may break a feature. Check the current license or terms that apply to your product before removing required attribution. See Atlassian’s Data Center attribution guidance and the WordPress plugin guidelines.
