For fingerprints and light water marks on a Cybertruck, rinse away loose grit, wash gently with mild pH-neutral soap, rinse before the soap dries, and dry with clean microfiber. For an isolated smudge, Tesla’s owner manual recommends glass cleaner and microfiber. Tesla does not give a separate recipe for mineral water spots, so treat this as routine care—not a guaranteed way to remove etched deposits.
Clean the panels without dragging grit across them
- Start with a cool exterior. Rinse the panels thoroughly to flush off dust, sand, and other grit before touching the surface. Tesla’s Cybertruck Owner’s Manual cleaning instructions call for flushing grime and grit before washing.
- Hand-wash with mild pH-neutral soap. Use water, a mild soap, and a soft sponge. Avoid assuming a product is safe just because it is marketed for cars: Tesla warns against acidic, corrosive, highly alkaline, or caustic cleaners, which can damage or discolor exterior parts.
- Rinse before the soap dries. Use clean water to remove the soap rather than letting it dry on the stainless panels.
- Dry with clean microfiber. Use automotive microfiber towels that are free of sand, dirt, and rocks. A dirty towel can drag grit across the panels.
Remove an isolated fingerprint or smudge
For spot cleaning, Tesla specifies glass cleaner with a microfiber cloth. Its manual also identifies isopropyl alcohol (IPA) wipes as suitable for small stains. Apply gently with a clean cloth or wipe, and stop if the mark does not come away rather than switching to an abrasive or improvised treatment.

Try the routine wash, clean-water rinse, and thorough drying described above. Tesla’s reviewed manual does not publish a dedicated water-spot removal sequence or guarantee that this routine will remove mineral deposits that have etched or bonded to the surface.

Orange or brown specks may be iron-containing debris on the surface rather than rusting of the Cybertruck itself. Tesla describes an initial treatment with IPA wipes. If that does not work, its Cybertruck Do It Yourself guide gives a separate procedure using a mild citric-acid cleaner and a specified blue Scotch-Brite Non-Scratch Scour Pad. Use that procedure only for the contamination it describes, follow its full instructions—including gloves, application timing, rinsing, and warnings—and do not substitute another pad. Tesla warns that the procedure can cause localized color variation and that other tools can scratch the surface.

Persistent discoloration or a scratch
A mark that remains after appropriate cleaning may need assessment rather than stronger cleaning products. Cybertruck exterior panels have no clear coat; a visible scratch is in the stainless steel itself. For scratch repair, Tesla points to its Exterior Stainless Steel Panel Refinishing procedure. Its sanding instructions concern repair work, not routine owner cleaning.

Products and tools to avoid
- Acidic, corrosive, highly alkaline, or caustic cleaners.
- Steel wool, rough or unapproved pads, abrasive compounds, and improvised scratch-removal methods.
- Any cloth or sponge that may hold sand, dirt, or rocks.
Tesla cautions that unsuitable cleaning formulas can damage or discolor exterior components. Because there is no clear coat to absorb a scratch, do not escalate from a stubborn spot to an abrasive treatment.
