“OEM lock” can mean two different things on a Samsung Galaxy: the bootloader’s OEM-unlocking setting, or Google’s Factory Reset Protection (FRP) account check after a reset. They are not interchangeable, and the right next step depends on what your phone is showing.
Are you trying to unlock the bootloader to install custom software, or seeing a Google account verification screen after a reset? Note your Galaxy model number, country or region, carrier variant, and Android/One UI version before looking for device-specific instructions. Samsung’s official developer FAQ does not provide a bootloader-unlock procedure; it directs users to Samsung Customer Support.
First identify which lock you mean

For Android’s general explanation of locked and unlockable bootloaders, see the Android Open Source Project documentation. It is not a Samsung eligibility list or a promise that an OEM-unlocking option will be available on your phone.
Can you remove the bootloader OEM lock on a Samsung?
There is no universal Samsung bootloader-unlock method established by the official sources cited here. Android documents the general concept: most Android devices ship with locked bootloaders, and on supported devices the OEM unlocking setting enables the ability to unlock. Whether that applies to a specific Galaxy can vary by model, software, region, and carrier variant.

Samsung’s Developer Program FAQ answers “Can you help me unlock my phone bootloader?” with: “We do not have information about unlocking devices. Please reach out to the Samsung Customer Support team for further guidance.” For a device-specific answer, contact Samsung with the phone’s model number and the country and carrier where it was sold.
What the OEM unlocking option does—and does not prove
Developer options are advanced settings, not a guarantee that the bootloader can be unlocked. Samsung’s Canada support page describes Developer options as advanced tools not generally useful to the average user and says use of Developer mode is not supported by Samsung and may affect phone performance. That guidance is for devices sold in Canada; menu names and screens can vary by model and software.

Samsung Knox Trusted Boot checks software components in the boot chain and uses collected measurements for device-integrity assessment. The cited Knox documentation does not establish the model-specific effects of changing a bootloader on features such as Secure Folder, Samsung Wallet, warranty coverage, or enterprise management. Do not assume those effects are harmless or identical across Galaxy devices; ask Samsung about your model and intended change.

If you see Google account verification after a reset
FRP is intended to help protect a lost or stolen device. Samsung says a reset performed by a method other than the factory-reset option in Settings may trigger a request to verify the Google account previously registered on the phone. On Android 9 and later, Samsung says previously configured screen-lock credentials may also verify ownership in some cases. A factory reset does not guarantee that FRP will be removed; it can lead to this verification screen.

- Try the Google account previously used on the device. If you are unsure of the account or its password, use Google’s account recovery process.
- If the phone is still accessible and you intend to erase it, back up important data first. A factory data reset removes personal data, and a Samsung account password may be required if an account is signed in.
- If you cannot complete ownership verification, contact Samsung Support or visit a Samsung service center. Samsung recommends this route when account verification cannot be completed.
Factory-reset a Galaxy only when you can authenticate
Samsung’s US support instructions give this Settings path; labels and layouts may differ by model and software:
- Open Settings.
- Tap General management, then Reset.
- Tap Factory data reset.
- Review the listed data, tap Reset, then tap Delete all and follow any account or lock-screen prompts.
This erases personal data. Back up what you need before proceeding, and do not use a reset as a way to bypass ownership verification. These steps reflect Samsung’s US support guidance; consult Samsung support for the labels applicable to your device and region.

What to have ready when contacting Samsung
- The exact Galaxy model number, not just the product family name.
- The country or region where the device was purchased and its carrier variant, if applicable.
- The Android and One UI version, if you can access that information.
- The exact message on screen and when it appears: during startup, in Developer options, or after a reset.
- Whether you can access the Google or Samsung account previously registered on the device.
For bootloader questions, Samsung’s Developer Program FAQ directs users to Samsung Customer Support. For a device requesting ownership verification, Samsung’s support guidance likewise recommends contacting support or visiting a service center if verification cannot be completed.
