To remove a Google Account from a Samsung tablet, open Settings > Accounts and backup > Manage accounts, select the account, tap Remove account, then confirm. This signs the account out on that tablet; it does not permanently delete the Google Account.
Remove a Google Account from your Samsung tablet
- Open Settings.
- Tap Accounts and backup.
- Tap Manage accounts.
- Select the Google Account you want to remove.
- Tap Remove account, then tap Remove account again to confirm.
Samsung notes that screens and settings can differ by carrier and software version. If Google device protection features are enabled, you may be asked to verify your identity before signing out. See Samsung’s instructions for removing accounts from a Galaxy phone or tablet.
What happens when you remove the account?
The account remains active online and can be added to the tablet again. However, Google says account-associated information—including email, contacts, and settings—is removed from that device. Removing it from the tablet is not the same as erasing the data in the online Google Account. Google explains the device effects in its Android account help.
If the menu labels differ
Depending on the Android version and device, the account menu may instead be called Passwords and accounts, Users and accounts, Passwords, passkeys and autofill, Password, passkeys and accounts, or Manage accounts. Choose the Google Account, tap Remove account, and confirm. If it is the only Google Account on the tablet, Android may require the screen-lock pattern, PIN, or password.

Choose the right kind of account change

Delete the entire Google Account
This is an account-wide action, not a Samsung tablet setting. Google’s current path is Google Account > Data & Privacy > Your data & privacy options > More options > Delete your Google Account; then follow the on-screen instructions. Review Google’s account deletion guidance before confirming.
Prepare before deleting
- Review the account and download any data you want to keep.
- Replace the Gmail address on banking, social media, and other services where it is used for sign-in or recovery.
- Update recovery information in case you later try to recover the account.
- Check services and purchases tied to the account, including Google Play and YouTube content.
Deleting the account means losing data and content such as email, files, calendars, and photos, as well as access to services that use it, including Gmail, Drive, Calendar, and Play. Subscriptions and content bought through YouTube or Google Play are also affected. Google says recovery might no longer be possible after some time. Deleting one Google Account does not delete your other Google Accounts.

On Android devices, Google also warns that some apps and services may stop working; Play Store downloads, updates, and purchased media access can be affected; contacts stored only in the account are lost; and Drive data will no longer be saved to that account. The precise effect on a Galaxy Tab depends on how it is set up.

Google offers a separate option to delete Gmail without deleting the whole account. You must first have another email address associated with the Google Account. In Google Account settings, open Data & Privacy, choose Delete a Google Service, select Gmail, provide the other address, and verify it. Gmail is not deleted until that address is verified. Prepare a tablet for sale, gifting, or loss
Before handing the tablet to someone else
Removing the Google Account alone is not a complete privacy preparation. Google recommends clearing the device’s data and applications before giving it away or discarding it. Follow reset instructions for your specific Galaxy Tab model and software version; the reset menu can vary. Deleting the online Google Account is not a substitute for wiping local tablet data. If you no longer have the tablet
If the account is still signed in on a device you no longer control, Google provides a way to sign out remotely through your account’s device information. Use the same Google device guidance to find the remote sign-out option.
