To remove a song claimed by Content ID from an archived YouTube livestream, open the video in YouTube Studio, select the claim notice, choose View details, then Take action. You can erase the song, mute all sound in the claimed segment, replace the song with YouTube Audio Library music, or trim out the segment. Back up the video and preview your edit before saving: YouTube says saved Studio Editor changes cannot be reverted starting in June 2025.

First, confirm this guide fits the problem

This workflow is for a Content ID claim on an archived livestream. YouTube scans live streams for third-party material, and detected material that remains may interrupt or terminate a live broadcast. A Content ID claim on an archived livestream is made after the stream ends, if you choose to archive it. See YouTube’s guidance on live-stream copyright.

Open the specific video’s details in YouTube Studio to confirm the claim and its timestamps. The claim status and available controls for your video are visible in your channel; they cannot be determined from the song title alone.

Remove the claim in YouTube Studio

  1. In YouTube Studio, open Content and select the archived livestream.
  2. Open the copyright claim notice, select View details, then choose Take action for the relevant claim.
  3. Choose an edit that removes or covers all claimed material. Compare the options below before applying one.
  4. Preview the result in the editor. Adjust the start or end points if needed, then save.
  5. Wait for processing to finish. Reload the video list and check that the edit applied and the claim is gone.

YouTube displays an editing-in-progress state and an estimated processing time. Other edits to the video are unavailable while processing. For the current interface and editing behavior, see YouTube’s instructions for removing claimed content from videos.

Choose the least disruptive complete edit

Action What it changes Trade-off and important limit
Erase song Attempts to remove only the claimed song from the affected segment. Best when you want to retain dialogue, effects, and other audio. YouTube cautions that it may fail if the song is difficult to separate.
Mute all sound in the claimed segments Mutes all audio in the affected interval. Removes non-song audio too, but YouTube says this is usually faster and more likely to clear the claim.
Replace song Replaces claimed audio with one or more tracks from the YouTube Audio Library. Available for audio claims. Replacement coverage must span the full claimed interval; any claimed audio left behind can keep the claim active.
Trim out segment Removes the claimed video segment, including its audio. Use when losing the affected video section is acceptable. Any claimed content that remains means the claim will not clear.

YouTube only clears the claim when the claimed material is fully removed or covered. Choose based on what matters most: preserving other audio, retaining the picture, or making a broader edit that is more likely to clear the claim in one attempt.

Check every occurrence in a looping livestream

A song in a pre-recorded loop may appear more than once in the archived stream. Review all claim timestamps in View details, not just the first occurrence. If the same song is claimed at multiple points, an edit that covers only one point can leave other claimed audio in the archive. Make sure the edit addresses every claimed interval, then verify the claim after processing.

Back up and preview before saving

Download a copy of the video or use Google Takeout before editing. YouTube’s editor guidance notes that, starting in June 2025, saved edits cannot be undone with Revert to original. Preview the full affected interval before saving, especially if trimming or muting, because those changes may remove footage or audio you intended to keep. See YouTube’s instructions for downloading your own videos.

If the edit does not clear the claim

  • Erase song leaves a claim: YouTube notes that song removal may fail. Try muting all sound in the claimed segments or trim the segment out.
  • Replacement leaves a claim: Check whether the replacement track covers the entire claimed interval and whether another claimed occurrence remains elsewhere in the loop.
  • Mute or trim leaves a claim: Recheck the timestamps and make sure no claimed audio or other claimed content remains outside the edited range.
  • Processing is still underway: Wait for the in-progress edit to finish before trying another change; then reload the video list and check the claim status.

Dispute only when you have the necessary rights

An unfamiliar claimant does not by itself prove a claim is invalid. Dispute only if you are confident you have all necessary rights to the material. YouTube does not mediate copyright disputes, and an unsupported dispute can lead the rights holder to request removal. If the song is validly claimed, remove it with the Studio editing tools or leave the claim in place. Read YouTube’s guidance on disputing a Content ID claim.
