To move viewers to a 24/7 stream, first have a separate destination stream running, then set the ending event to redirect to it. The sending channel must meet YouTube’s eligibility rules, and the destination channel must allow the redirect.
What Live Redirect does—and what it does not
Live Redirect is an end-of-stream handoff. YouTube describes it this way: “Once your live stream ends, autoplay will move your viewers to the Premiere or live stream of your choice.” The feature does not extend the source event, create a continuous video feed, or guarantee uninterrupted viewing. Instead, the source stream ends and YouTube directs viewers to a separate destination.
For a 24/7 setup, think of three separate pieces: the event that is ending, a destination stream that is already running, and the redirect that connects them. YouTube’s documented live-stream destination is another channel’s stream; do not assume the setting can roll a stream into another stream on the same channel.
Check eligibility and destination permissions
- Sending channel: It must have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guideline strikes to use Live Redirect.
- Destination channel: It must permit your channel to redirect viewers to its live content. The destination owner manages this in YouTube Studio under Settings → Community. YouTube documents permission for subscribed channels, all channels, or specifically selected channels, with up to 100 channels in the specific-channel list.
- Livestream access: To enable livestreaming, YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days.
- Stream orientation: Live Redirect is available for horizontal live streams, not vertical live feeds.
These are distinct checks: the sender’s redirect eligibility does not replace the destination owner’s permission, and livestream access requirements are separate from Live Redirect eligibility.

Set the redirect in YouTube Studio
- Confirm the destination is live. Start the separate 24/7 stream and verify that it is active on the destination channel before configuring the source event.
- Open the source stream: In YouTube Studio, select Content, then the Live tab.
- Edit its customization: Hover over the source livestream, select Edit, then choose Customization.
- Choose the redirect: Under Redirect, click Add. Select a Premiere or search for the other channel’s live stream you want viewers to reach.
- Save and communicate the handoff. When the source livestream ends, YouTube displays a confirmation that viewers will be redirected. Let viewers know their screen may take a few seconds to reload.
Run the separate 24/7 destination stream
A continuous destination needs its own continuing video feed. YouTube lists software encoders, standalone hardware encoders, and cloud tools as possible approaches. Its directory describes Gyre as a cloud tool for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded videos and Upstream as a cloud studio for 24/7 live video streaming; those directory descriptions do not establish uptime or comparative performance.
DIY encoder setup
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or select the destination stream.
- Copy the YouTube stream URL and stream key into the encoder you are using. Treat the stream key like a password; do not share or publish it.
- Start the encoder and wait for the preview in Live Control Room. Check the stream health and confirm audio and video are present before going live.
- Go live in Live Control Room once the preview is ready. YouTube documents that stream settings and keys can be reused when creating another stream.
- Keep the destination stream running while the source event is active, so it is available when the redirect occurs.
YouTube’s error guidance identifies H.264 video and AAC audio for proper ingestion and directs creators to encoder settings for bitrate and resolution requirements. Use settings appropriate to your encoder and verify them in YouTube’s current guidance; if you use encoder failover, match the backup stream’s settings. YouTube recommends testing the encoder setup, checking the preview, and monitoring audio and video.

- Dedicated hardware encoder: YouTube’s directory lists AJA HELO Plus as a standalone H.264 encoder for direct YouTube Live streaming. It is not required for Live Redirect, and the cited directory does not establish that it guarantees uninterrupted 24/7 broadcasting. Pricing and availability are not stated in the directory description.
- Other cloud tools: YouTube’s directory includes Gyre and Upstream with the descriptions above. Check each provider’s supported content source, monitoring and restart controls, service terms, and published uptime evidence; the directory does not establish feature parity or service reliability.

Limits and operational details to plan for
- YouTube documents a maximum of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key; both limits apply at once.
- YouTube separately documents a daily limit on the number of streams a channel can create in 24 hours, but its cited error guidance does not state a fixed number.
- Streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. This does not establish that longer streams are prohibited, nor does it guarantee indefinite operation.
- For a continuous service, plan to monitor stream health and audio/video output. A redirect is a handoff, not a substitute for operating and checking the destination stream.
Troubleshoot a redirect or destination that does not work
The redirect option is unavailable
- Check that the sending channel has more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guideline strikes.
- Confirm that the stream is horizontal; Live Redirect is not available for vertical live feeds.
- Make sure livestreaming is enabled for the channel. YouTube’s getting-started guidance requires verification and no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days.
The intended live stream is missing from the destination choices
- Ask the destination owner to allow your channel under YouTube Studio → Settings → Community.
- Confirm the destination stream is live and that you are selecting the correct channel and stream.
The destination stream does not appear or ingest properly
- Check that the encoder is using the correct stream URL and stream key. If a key may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube and update the encoder.
- Wait for the Live Control Room preview before going live, then inspect stream health and audio/video.
- Use H.264 video and AAC audio for YouTube ingestion, and check YouTube’s encoder settings for supported bitrate and resolution. If using failover, match the backup’s settings.
- Check whether you have reached YouTube’s active-stream limits or daily stream-creation limit. The daily limit is documented, but the cited guidance does not specify a numeric threshold.
Viewers do not arrive immediately
YouTube’s confirmation indicates when viewers will be redirected. Tell them to allow a few seconds for the screen to reload; if the destination is no longer live, the handoff cannot deliver them to an active continuous stream.
Copyright and channel-policy checks
Before running prerecorded material continuously, make sure you have the rights and permissions needed for the video and audio. A 24/7 loop does not change YouTube’s copyright rules, and a redirect does not make the destination content exempt from applicable policies. Use YouTube’s copyright safety checklist as a practical preflight, and check YouTube’s current policies for the channel and content involved.
