To recover deleted photos from Samsung Gallery, check the Gallery Recycle Bin first, then look for another copy in Google Photos, OneDrive, or a Samsung Cloud backup. Restore the photo from the service where it still exists; a backup helps only if it was made before the deletion and includes the photo.
1. Restore the photo from Samsung Gallery’s Recycle Bin
Open Gallery, tap Menu (often shown as three horizontal lines), choose Recycle bin, select the photo, and tap Restore. Samsung’s current support guidance says deleted Gallery items stay in the Recycle Bin for 30 days, then are permanently deleted. Samsung’s Gallery Recycle Bin instructions cover the feature.
Menu names and availability vary by Galaxy model and software version. On some older software versions, the Recycle Bin may have needed to be enabled before the photo was deleted. If you do not see the option, check your Gallery menu and the current instructions for your device; Samsung’s photo recovery guidance also notes that features can vary.

2. Check Google Photos Trash and Archive
Samsung Gallery and Google Photos are separate apps, so a photo missing from Gallery may still be in Google Photos. Open Google Photos and confirm you are using the Google account that held the photo. Check both Collections > Trash and Archive.

If the photo is still in Trash, select it and choose Restore. Google’s current Android help says items remain in Trash for 30 days before permanent deletion; restored items return to the Google Photos library and the phone’s Gallery. Google says permanently deleted items cannot be restored through the Trash flow. See Google Photos’ instructions for finding and restoring items.
3. Look for older copies in OneDrive
If you previously used Samsung Gallery sync with OneDrive, sign in to the Microsoft account that was connected and look for the photo in OneDrive. Samsung says Gallery sync ended on September 30, 2026: photos synced before that date remain in OneDrive and can be downloaded, but new photos no longer sync through Gallery.

If the photo was deleted from OneDrive, check OneDrive’s Recycle bin. Samsung’s current support guidance says deleted files described on its support page remain there for 93 days. The availability of the old synced copy depends on whether the photo was actually uploaded and which account was used. See Samsung’s OneDrive and Gallery guidance.

A Samsung Cloud backup is useful only if one existed before the loss and contains the relevant photo data. Backup contents and availability vary by device, country, and provider, so do not assume a device backup includes Gallery photos.

Existing device backup
Review the backup details associated with your Samsung account before restoring anything. Samsung’s Samsung Cloud backup guidance explains that available backup data depends on the device and service.
Temporary cloud backup
Samsung’s Temporary cloud backup can retain device data for up to 30 days. Restore it on the device using the Samsung account that created the backup, and confirm that the backup contains the photos you need. See Samsung’s Temporary cloud backup instructions.

5. If no copy or backup contains the photo
If the photo is no longer in Gallery’s Recycle Bin or Google Photos Trash, was not synced to OneDrive, and is absent from any usable backup, the reviewed official recovery instructions do not establish a universal way to bring it back. Google says items permanently deleted from its Trash cannot be restored through that feature. Do not assume a generic recovery app, cable, card reader, or other accessory can recreate a photo when no surviving copy is available.
Prevent losing the next photo
Set up a backup or sync service before you need it, and periodically confirm that recent photos appear in the account you expect. Gallery’s former OneDrive sync is no longer an option for new photos; use a currently available backup service and verify its settings on your device. A new backup can protect future photos, but cannot recover one that was never copied.
