Deleting a scheduled broadcast does not necessarily delete the reusable stream key. In YouTube Studio, open Create > Go Live, select the Stream tab, and check the Stream key section. If the key is unavailable or you need to replace it, reset the key and update your encoder. Then schedule a replacement broadcast from Manage; YouTube does not document a way to restore the deleted broadcast itself.
Find the stream key in YouTube Studio
- Sign in to the YouTube channel that owns or manages the stream.
- In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live to open Live Control Room.
- Open the Stream tab and find the Stream key section. The key is hidden by default. Copy it if it is available and you intend to use that key in your encoder. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings.
- If you need a new key, select Reset beside the hidden key. A channel owner or manager must perform the reset. Copy the replacement key and update the saved key in your encoder.
Schedule a replacement broadcast
The deleted event and the reusable stream key are separate things: YouTube documents how to manage or reuse keys, but does not say that deleting a scheduled broadcast permanently deletes the key. Its Help pages also do not describe restoring a deleted broadcast object. Check what remains available in the channel’s Live Control Room, then schedule a new broadcast rather than assuming the deleted event can be recovered.
- In Live Control Room, open Manage and schedule a new stream.
- If the previous stream is available, choose Reuse settings. YouTube says this copies the previous stream’s metadata, settings, and stream key. If it is not available or you prefer not to reuse it, choose Create new. See YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder and Manage live stream settings.
- In your encoder, enter the YouTube stream URL in the server or destination field and the stream key in its separate key field.
- Start the encoder and wait for its preview to appear in Live Control Room. When the scheduled event is ready, select Go live.
If you cannot see or reset the key
First confirm you are signed in to the correct channel. Then check your channel role: YouTube says a channel owner or manager can reset a key, and delegated roles may have restrictions on viewing or resetting keys. Review YouTube Help: Add or remove access to your YouTube channel with channel permissions. If your role does not allow the action, ask an owner or manager to check the key or reset it.

Troubleshooting encoder startup
- The encoder reports an invalid or missing key: Retrieve the key from Live Control Room’s Stream tab and paste it into the encoder again. If you reset the key, make sure the encoder has the replacement rather than the old saved value. YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance recommends retrieving the key from Live Control Room and updating the encoder.
- The event is missing from the schedule: Look in Manage and schedule a replacement. The published instructions describe reusing available settings or creating a new stream, not restoring a deleted event.
- Your encoder signs in directly to YouTube instead of using a key: YouTube directs users of direct sign-in workflows to contact the software provider for support.
- You cannot reset the key: Verify the channel and permissions, or ask a channel owner or manager to do the reset.
