To recover a YouTube playlist rotation after a streaming PC reboots, reopen the saved playlist in the browser or OBS Browser Source and turn on YouTube’s Loop control again. A temporary queue will not survive a closed browser, and the available documentation does not promise that a reboot restores the exact video, timestamp, or shuffle order.
First identify how the playlist was playing
The recovery steps depend on whether YouTube was open in a desktop browser, loaded as a page in OBS Browser Source, or replaced by local media in OBS’s VLC Video source. These are separate playback paths: OBS Browser Source loads a webpage, while VLC Video plays media files and requires VLC to be installed.
- Browser: YouTube plays directly in a desktop browser.
- OBS Browser Source: OBS displays a YouTube webpage inside a scene.
- OBS VLC Video: OBS plays a playlist of local media files, not a YouTube-hosted playlist.
Recover a saved YouTube playlist
- Open the saved playlist. In YouTube on your computer, navigate to the playlist and start a video from it. If you had only built a temporary queue, recreate it and save it as a playlist first. YouTube says a queue will not save after the browser closes and recommends saving it as a playlist to continue later (Queue videos on YouTube – Computer).
- Turn playlist repeat back on. Expand the playlist box next to the video and click Loop. YouTube’s help page says this repeats the playlist continuously (Loop videos or playlists on YouTube).
- Check the rotation. Confirm that the playlist is repeating and that its videos are in the intended order. If you use shuffle, verify that state as well; the documentation does not establish that shuffle order persists through a full reboot.
Reopening the saved playlist and restoring Loop recovers the rotation, but it does not guarantee a return to the exact video or timestamp that was playing before the reboot. Treat that behavior as dependent on your browser, YouTube session, and setup unless you have tested it.

Open OBS and check the scene containing the Browser Source. Confirm that its URL still points to the intended YouTube playlist or page, then reopen or refresh the source as needed and restore YouTube’s playlist Loop control in the page. OBS documents two relevant source options: Shutdown source when not visible and Refresh browser source when scene becomes active. They govern unloading or refreshing the page when visibility changes; they are not documented as guarantees of YouTube position or repeat recovery after a full computer reboot (OBS Browser Source).

Because this path depends on both OBS source behavior and the YouTube player session, check the login state, playlist page, and repeat setting after restarting OBS. Do not assume cookies, playback position, repeat, or shuffle state were retained.
If OBS was playing local files instead
For local media, use OBS’s VLC Video source controls, not YouTube playlist instructions. OBS documents Loop Playlist and Shuffle Playlist; the listed defaults are On and Off, respectively. VLC must be installed for this source (OBS VLC Video Source).

Those controls apply to a playlist of files. They do not show that VLC Video can recover a YouTube-hosted playlist or restore a particular playhead position after a reboot.

Test the restart behavior before relying on it live
Once the playlist is set up, do a controlled restart while the stream is not critical. Check which video starts, whether the playlist repeats, whether the sequence is intact, and—if relevant—whether the intended position returns. A successful test describes your current configuration; it is not a guarantee that future browser, OBS, or YouTube changes will behave identically.

When a plugin may help—and when it will not
The community listing for the Media Playlist Source plugin says it can save the currently playing file so it can play when OBS restarts (Media Playlist Source). That description concerns local file playback; it does not establish recovery of a YouTube playlist. Check the plugin’s current OBS version requirements and test compatibility before using it. A plugin is not shown to be necessary for reopening a saved YouTube playlist and restoring Loop.
Troubleshooting
- The rotation is gone after closing the browser: It may have existed only as a temporary queue. Rebuild it and save it as a playlist, then open that saved playlist.
- The playlist plays once and stops: Open a video from the playlist, expand the playlist box, and click Loop.
- OBS shows a blank or stale page: Check that the Browser Source URL is correct, then refresh or reopen the source. Review its visibility and scene-activation settings; those options do not themselves promise reboot recovery.
- The wrong video or position returns: Exact item and timestamp recovery is not established by the documentation. Reopen the saved playlist and verify the desired starting point manually.
- Local files do not repeat: In the VLC Video source, inspect Loop Playlist and confirm VLC is installed. These settings are for local files, not YouTube playback.
