Google Password Manager can help you find a saved password for a website or app, but it cannot reset the password or PIN you use to sign in to Windows 11. First identify which credential you forgot: a website password, your Google Account password, your Microsoft-account password, a local Windows account password, or a Windows Hello PIN. Each has a different recovery route.
First, identify which password or PIN you forgot
A password saved in Google Password Manager belongs to a website or app. It is not the same as your Google Account password, your Windows account password, or your Windows Hello PIN. Use the matching route below rather than trying to recover a Windows sign-in credential in Google Password Manager.
| Credential you forgot | Where recovery starts | What you may need |
|---|---|---|
| Website or app password saved in Google Password Manager | Chrome or passwords.google.com | The password must have been saved to your Google Account or to the Chrome installation you are using. Google Account Help |
| Google Account password | Google Account recovery | Answer Google’s ownership questions; work or school accounts may require administrator help. |
| Microsoft-account password used for Windows | Windows sign-in screen or Microsoft’s password-reset flow | Microsoft verifies your identity before allowing a reset. Microsoft Support |
| Local Windows account password | Windows sign-in screen | Security questions or a password reset disk set up earlier; an available administrator account may also help. Microsoft Support |
| Windows Hello PIN | Windows sign-in screen or Settings | Use the PIN reset option if available, or sign in with the account password and reset it in Settings. Microsoft Support |

If the entry is missing, check whether it was saved in the Google Account you are using. Google distinguishes passwords saved to an account from passwords saved only on a device; a locally stored password may not appear on another device.
Google Password Manager can store website and app passwords and passkeys. If the credential you need is for Windows sign-in, use the appropriate Windows recovery route instead.
Recover the Google Account password
If the forgotten password is for the Google Account that holds your saved passwords, use Google’s account-recovery flow. Answer the ownership questions as accurately as you can. If Google lets you recover the account, choose a strong password you have not previously used for that account. For a work or school account, contact the administrator if the standard recovery process does not work.

Reset a Microsoft-account password used to sign in to Windows 11
If your Windows 11 account uses a Microsoft account, Google Password Manager cannot change its password. Microsoft requires you to verify your identity as part of resetting it.

Reset a local Windows account password
For a local account, choose the password sign-in option at the Windows sign-in screen. After entering an incorrect password, select OK > Reset password, then answer the security questions configured for that account. Microsoft’s local-account recovery instructions also describe using a password reset disk if you created one earlier.
A reset disk must be made before you are locked out; a USB flash drive you buy after losing access will not work as a newly created recovery disk. If you have no usable recovery option and no other administrator account, Microsoft says resetting the device may be necessary. Consider the consequences before proceeding, especially if you need files on the PC.
Reset a forgotten Windows Hello PIN
A Windows PIN is separate from the Microsoft-account password, even if you use both on the same PC. At the sign-in screen, select I forgot my PIN if the option appears and follow the prompts. Microsoft says this option is for Microsoft accounts, not local accounts.
