First check YouTube Studio, not just your encoder. A copyright warning, strike, or channel restriction needs to be resolved before a restart can restore the stream; if Studio shows no rights or account issue, check the stream key, server URL, network, and encoder logs. YouTube can interrupt a live stream when it detects third-party content, including music that has been licensed but whose rights holder has not allowlisted the channel.
Identify why the stream stopped
Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and your channel dashboard. Check for a live warning, copyright notice, strike, or account restriction before repeatedly restarting OBS or other equipment. YouTube says unresolved third-party matches can interrupt or terminate live streams. The notice in Studio and the encoder’s logs are the best starting points for distinguishing a rights action from a transmission fault. YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams
- Rights or account notice: Follow the issue shown in Studio. Restarting the encoder does not remove a platform restriction.
- Encoder-start or connection error: Check the selected stream, server URL, stream key, protocol, and network.
- No clear warning: Compare Studio’s stream-health messages with the encoder log; the exact cause cannot be established without those details.
Reconnect the encoder to YouTube
- Confirm the correct stream is selected. In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go Live → Stream and check that you are viewing the intended stream. A stream key identifies the feed YouTube accepts from the encoder. YouTube Help: Create a live stream with an encoder
- Match the URL and key. In the encoder, verify the server URL and stream key against the values for that stream in Live Control Room. If the encoder reports that it cannot start, copy the key from Live Control Room into the encoder and check for accidental spaces or a key belonging to another stream. - Reset a key only if it may be compromised or is otherwise suspect. In Studio, go to Create → Go Live → Stream and reset the key. Only channel owners or managers can do this. Then replace the old key in the encoder; resetting it without updating the encoder will leave the feed using invalid credentials. YouTube Help: Create a live stream with an encoder
- Check protocol and network. Make sure the configured URL uses the intended protocol and server. For an RTMPS timeout, confirm that the encoder supports RTMPS and that its destination is correct. Check that available upload capacity exceeds the stream’s total bitrate; network disruption can break a stream. YouTube Help: Fix encoder issues YouTube Help: Live streaming tips
- Start the encoder and verify reception. Watch Live Control Room for the incoming preview or stream-health indication before assuming the channel is live. Follow Studio’s go-live flow to resume public playback. YouTube Help: Create a live stream with an encoder
If YouTube stopped the stream for music rights
Do not keep relaunching the same playlist until you understand the notice. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches, and a licensed track can still trigger an interruption if the rights holder has not added the channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube states: “If your channel isn’t added to their allowlist, your live stream can be interrupted even if you’ve licensed the content.” YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams
- Read the copyright or restriction details in Studio and note which content or policy is identified.
- Contact the rights holder or authorized licensing provider to confirm that the license covers this use and that the specific YouTube channel has been allowlisted where required.
- Check Studio for any channel restriction or strike and resolve the stated issue. A backup encoder or new stream key cannot clear a rights action.
- After the rights issue is addressed, start the encoder and confirm that Live Control Room receives the feed.
These steps do not determine whether a particular recording is cleared for an Indian channel or whether a license covers a 24/7 broadcast. Confirm permissions with the relevant rights holders or licensing provider; do not treat a successful technical reconnection as proof of clearance.

Reduce the chance of another disconnect
Monitor stream health and leave bandwidth headroom
Test the complete stream before relying on it for continuous playback, monitor stream health, and review Studio messages. YouTube recommends upload capacity 20% above the total stream bitrate; its guidance also calls for enough capacity for both primary and backup streams if both are running. Test backup-encoder failover
If you operate a backup encoder, test it by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its Ethernet connection, then confirm that playback rolls over to the backup. YouTube recommends testing this behavior, but failover only helps with certain encoder or connection failures. It will not resolve a copyright interruption, channel restriction, or every YouTube-side outage. YouTube Help: Live streaming tips

Keep a separate recording when the archive matters
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its DVR guidance says rewind may be limited or unavailable on very long streams, so keep a separate local recording if retaining the complete program is important. YouTube Help: Archive live streams
