To record gameplay in XSplit Broadcaster, add the game or capture device to a scene, set the local recording options, then choose Record > Active Scene. Use Game Capture for compatible PC games; use screen or window capture if it does not work. Console gameplay needs a capture card to bring its video into the PC.
Record PC gameplay in XSplit
- Add a game source. Open Add Source and choose Game Capture. XSplit says this can capture supported games using DirectX 9–12, Vulkan, or OpenGL. Its Game Capture guide describes capturing supported PC games as a source in Broadcaster.
- Use an alternative if the game is not detected. Try Screen Capture for a browser game or another title that is incompatible with Game Capture, or use Application capture for a particular desktop window. Resize and position the source on the stage so the scene contains what you want in the recording.
- Check capture settings when needed. If a DirectX 12 or Vulkan game is not found, verify that those capture options are enabled at Tools > Settings > General, as described in XSplit’s Game Capture instructions. Detection is not guaranteed for every title or anti-cheat configuration.
- Set up local recording. Open Record, then click the gear icon beside the target scene or Active Scene to open Local Recording Properties. Choose the recording target, video codec, quality, and audio options. The settings available depend on your hardware and Broadcaster version.
- Start, pause, or stop. Select Record > Active Scene. XSplit records the active scene, so check the preview first. Use the same Record menu to pause or stop; the interface indicates when recording is active.

Choose recording settings that fit your PC
Codec and quality
XSplit lists x264, which uses CPU encoding, and hardware codec options depending on installed hardware, including NVENC H.264, AMD VCE, Intel QuickSync, and AVerMedia H.264. Its local recording quality choices range from standard through ultra high, with a custom option. Higher quality can require more CPU or GPU resources; there is no universal best preset without accounting for the game, resolution, frame rate, and available hardware headroom. If performance becomes uneven, compare a less demanding quality setting or an available hardware encoder rather than assuming the highest preset is suitable.
File format and frame rate
XSplit documents FLV and MP4 output. For MP4, it also offers splitting recordings by duration or file size. The Record Menu guide says Force constant framerate is enabled by default. The guide also describes an Optimize for YouTube option that applies encoder settings; that setting should not be treated as a guarantee of platform acceptance or ideal quality.

Game sound and microphone
Local Recording Properties exposes audio bitrate and mono/stereo options. XSplit’s Record Menu guide says audio bitrate choices start at 96 kbps and that higher bitrates and stereo are license-gated to Premium Bundle/Broadcaster Premium; those license details may change, so check the current interface and plan terms. If you want to edit commentary independently from game sound, enable multitrack recording and assign the microphone and system/game sound to separate tracks. XSplit describes tracks for system sound, microphone, and stream-only audio.
Audio capture can depend on the selected mode. In the Presentation Sources mode documented for Broadcaster 4.5, XSplit’s example says adding Game Capture captures only game audio, even when it plays through the default system device. Check your installed version and assign tracks in the mixer; do not assume every capture mode routes audio identically.

Record console gameplay or use a second PC
Console
XSplit says a capture card is required to get console video into Broadcaster. Connect the console to a compatible capture card, connect that device to the PC, then use Add Source > Camera/Capture Card and select it. The exact connections and supported video modes depend on the console and capture card; check both manufacturers’ specifications before buying or connecting equipment.
Two-PC setup
For a two-PC arrangement, the gaming computer sends its video to the computer running XSplit, commonly through an internal or external capture card. Add the card in Broadcaster as a camera/capture-card source. XSplit notes that separating gaming and production can help when those workloads affect one another, but does not publish controlled performance measurements for the benefit. The computer running XSplit should meet Broadcaster’s requirements.

Optional webcam
A webcam is not required to record gameplay. If you want a face camera in the scene, add it as a camera/capture-card source and resize and position it on the stage.
Find your recording and check PC requirements
Open File > My Recordings in XSplit to view local recordings. This is the documented in-app route; a universal folder path is not established here.

XSplit’s published support listing specifies Windows 10/11 64-bit, at least a 2nd Generation Core i5 or equivalent, 8 GB RAM, and a GeForce/Radeon-class GPU supporting DirectX 10.1 or better. Its recording/streaming recommendations are a 4th Generation Core i5 for HD 720p and a 4th Generation Core i7 for HD 1080p. These are vendor-stated requirements and recommendations, not a guarantee for a particular game, scene, recording quality, or frame rate. Check XSplit’s current system requirements because requirements and support can change.

- The game does not appear in Game Capture: Confirm the game is supported, check the DX12 and Vulkan options at Tools > Settings > General when relevant, and try Screen Capture or Application capture as a fallback. Some titles or anti-cheat configurations may not be captured.
- The recording shows the wrong scene: XSplit records the active scene when you choose Record > Active Scene. Select and arrange the intended scene, then check the preview before recording.
- Recording performance is poor: High quality settings can demand more CPU or GPU capacity. Try a lower quality preset or a supported hardware encoder, and consider whether the game and recording workload are competing for resources. XSplit’s listed requirements alone do not predict performance for every setup.
- Microphone or game audio is missing or mixed incorrectly: Review audio options in Local Recording Properties, check mixer assignments, and confirm which audio mode is active. For separate editing control, enable multitrack recording and verify the recorded tracks in the resulting file.
- A console or second PC is not visible: Confirm the capture card is connected and selected under Add Source > Camera/Capture Card, then check the device’s compatibility and supported modes with its manufacturer.
