To record a video on a Samsung phone, open Camera, choose Video, tap Record, and tap Stop when you are done. Your clip is then available in Gallery. Camera controls and available settings vary by Galaxy model and software version.
Record a video on your Samsung phone
- Open Camera. Find and open the Camera app.
- Choose Video. Tap Video in the mode strip. If it is not visible, swipe across the modes or look under More; the layout depends on the phone.
- Frame the shot. Point the viewfinder at your subject. To switch between the front and rear cameras, tap the camera-switch icon; on some phones, you can also swipe on the viewfinder.
- Start recording. Tap the Record button. Keep the phone steady while it films.
- Finish and check the clip. Tap Stop, then open Gallery and select the new video to play it.
Samsung describes Video as the mode for recording with automatic settings in its Galaxy A17 camera guide. Its Galaxy A27 camera guide also documents the camera modes. These are examples, not universal screen layouts: labels and control placement can differ by device and software version.
Choose a resolution that suits the recording
For a quick personal video, the default Video mode is a good place to start. If you want to change image size, look in the Camera app for a video-size or resolution control. The choices depend on the phone: Samsung’s Galaxy A17 example offers HD and FHD, while 8K recording is available only on supported models. Samsung’s 8K recording guide explains the feature for eligible devices.
Higher-resolution video can use more storage and place greater demands on processing. Samsung says 4K and 8K recordings on the devices covered by its 8K guide can be saved only to internal memory. The same guide notes that some phones may stop high-resolution recording after 10 minutes to manage processing, battery use, and heat; that limit does not apply to every Galaxy phone or every setting. For a longer recording, Samsung recommends switching to FHD or HD in its recording-limit troubleshooting guidance.

Improve sound or keep footage steadier
Sound
The phone’s built-in microphone is enough for a basic recording. On supported models, Pro Video offers additional microphone input and pickup-direction controls. Samsung lists options including Omni, Front, Rear, USB, Bluetooth, and Bluetooth Mix; a USB-C microphone is one example of a USB input. These controls and compatible inputs are not available on every Galaxy phone. Check Samsung’s Pro Video microphone guide for eligible models before relying on an external mic.
Stability
For steadier footage, hold the phone with both hands and move it deliberately. Some Galaxy phones also offer electronic or automatic stabilization, but the feature name and controls are model-specific. For example, Samsung documents video stabilization settings for the Z Flip6 and automatic Object Image Stabilization on the S22 series. Check the Camera screen or settings on your own phone; Samsung’s guides cover the Z Flip6 camera and S22 camera.

Find, play, or share the recording
Open Gallery and tap the video to play it. On supported devices, Gallery also provides editing and trimming tools. Samsung’s 8K guide describes sharing options such as YouTube or a compatible TV; large, high-resolution files can take longer to save or upload.
