Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallTo receive an embedded editor event on your server, use the editor provider’s documented webhook or server API. Configure that webhook to call an HTTPS endpoint you control, validate the provider’s authentication contract, parse its event envelope, and process events idempotently. A JavaScript callback, DOM event, or iframe message runs in the browser; it does not reach your backend unless your host page explicitly forwards it.
The exact event names, setup screens, payload fields, signatures, retries, and ordering rules depend on the editor. The examples below show how to determine the correct mechanism and build a receiver without assuming that one vendor’s protocol applies to another.
Start by identifying the event contract
Write down the exact action you need to observe: a document creation, save, download, comment, collaboration change, or completion callback. Then check that editor’s current server-side documentation for that action. The existence of an embedded JavaScript event proves only that the browser can observe it; it does not prove that a webhook exists.
Questions to answer in the provider documentation
- Does this action have a server webhook or API event?
- Where is the endpoint configured: an account dashboard, an embed configuration, or an API call?
- What HTTP method, content type, and payload envelope are used?
- How is authenticity verified? Look for a signature, timestamp, shared secret, or provider-specific token.
- What are the retry, timeout, duplicate-delivery, and ordering rules?
- Is there a delivery identifier or event timestamp that you can store?
If the answer to the first question is no, keep the event in the browser and have your own application call a backend endpoint only when forwarding is allowed and appropriate. Do not pretend that a callback is a provider-to-server webhook.

Webhook versus browser event
| Aspect | Server-side webhook or API | Browser callback, DOM event, or iframe message |
|---|---|---|
| Event path | The provider sends an HTTP request to your backend endpoint. | The embedded page or host page receives a JavaScript event. |
| Best fit | Backend synchronization, notifications, queues, and server-side work. | Immediate UI updates and coordination between the embed and its host page. |
| Interface | Vendor-specific HTTP envelope and event payload. | Vendor-specific callback, DOM event, or window message. |
| Security | Use the provider’s documented signature, timestamp, and secret checks. | Validate message origins and event shape before acting. |
| Limitations | Availability and delivery guarantees differ by editor and event. | It does not deliver to your server unless your application forwards it. |
What the major integration patterns look like
Templated embedded editor
Templated documents webhook events for create, save, and download. Its setup instructions place the webhook URL in Embed Setup → Advanced Settings. Example payloads include an action, templateId, and metadata. Treat those names as Templated’s contract; do not reuse them for another editor without checking that editor’s schema.
CKEditor Cloud Services
CKEditor Cloud Services sends HTTP POST webhooks containing fields such as event, environment_id, sent_at, and an event-specific payload. Its documentation describes signed requests and says, “Webhook events are sent asynchronously.” It also warns that events may arrive out of order. Store the provider’s event timestamp and compare it with the state you already have before replacing a newer document with an older event.
Adobe Universal Editor
Adobe Universal Editor documents aue: content and UI DOM events on affected elements. These events bubble to BODY and include request and response data after the corresponding call succeeds. That is a remote-page browser event mechanism, not evidence of a generic server webhook. If your backend must know about the operation, use an Adobe-supported server integration or deliberately forward the browser event through your application.
Figma embeds
Figma documents prototype events as messages sent from the iframe. A host page should check event.origin against https://www.figma.com before reading the message. Forward only the fields your backend needs, and authenticate that forwarding request as you would any other client request.
Rank #2
DocSpring editor
DocSpring documents callbacks such as onSave and a catch-all onEvent. Its onSave callback observes successful saves. onDone fires only when there are no pending changes, active save request, or save error. These are page-context callbacks, so they are not server webhooks by themselves.
Build the receiver in a safe order
- Choose an HTTPS endpoint. Use a stable route such as
POST /webhooks/editor. Keep it separate from browser-facing routes so authentication and logging policies are clear. - Preserve the raw request body. Signature verification often depends on the exact bytes received, not a re-serialized JSON object.
- Authenticate before side effects. Apply the selected provider’s signature and timestamp procedure before changing documents, sending mail, or enqueueing work. Do not invent a generic header or algorithm.
- Parse and validate the envelope. Require the documented event field and the identifiers needed to locate your tenant, user, document, or template. Reject malformed input with a 4xx response.
- Deduplicate. Store a provider event ID, delivery ID, or a deterministic key from the documented payload. If the provider does not supply an ID, create a conservative key from stable identifiers and timestamp, then document the trade-off.
- Acknowledge quickly. Return a 2xx response after validation and queue lengthy work. The provider’s timeout and retry behavior are product-specific.
- Handle ordering explicitly. If the provider documents asynchronous or unordered delivery, compare event timestamps or revisions before applying state.
Node.js receiver (standard library)
This receiver is a runnable foundation for providers that send JSON POST requests. The verifyProviderRequest function intentionally fails closed until you implement the exact verification procedure from your editor’s documentation.
const http = require('http');
const PORT = process.env.PORT || 3000;
const seen = new Set();
function verifyProviderRequest(req, rawBody) {
// Replace this with the provider's documented signature and timestamp check.
// Do not substitute a guessed HMAC header or algorithm.
return process.env.ALLOW_UNSIGNED_TESTS === '1';
}
function readBody(req) {
return new Promise((resolve, reject) => {
const chunks = [];
req.on('data', chunk => chunks.push(chunk));
req.on('end', () => resolve(Buffer.concat(chunks)));
req.on('error', reject);
});
}
const server = http.createServer(async (req, res) => {
if (req.method !== 'POST' || req.url !== '/webhooks/editor') {
res.writeHead(404, { 'content-type': 'text/plain' });
return res.end('Not found');
}
try {
const rawBody = await readBody(req);
if (!verifyProviderRequest(req, rawBody)) {
res.writeHead(401, { 'content-type': 'text/plain' });
return res.end('Invalid signature');
}
const event = JSON.parse(rawBody.toString('utf8'));
const eventId = event.id || event.event_id || req.headers['x-event-id'];
if (!eventId) {
res.writeHead(400, { 'content-type': 'text/plain' });
return res.end('Missing event identifier');
}
if (seen.has(String(eventId))) {
res.writeHead(200, { 'content-type': 'application/json' });
return res.end('{"status":"duplicate"}');
}
// Validate vendor-specific fields before this point in production.
seen.add(String(eventId));
console.log('Accepted editor event:', event);
// Enqueue durable work here; do not perform long jobs in this request.
res.writeHead(202, { 'content-type': 'application/json' });
res.end('{"status":"accepted"}');
} catch (error) {
console.error(error);
res.writeHead(400, { 'content-type': 'text/plain' });
res.end('Invalid JSON');
}
});
server.listen(PORT, () => console.log(`Listening on ${PORT}`));
For local testing only, start it with ALLOW_UNSIGNED_TESTS=1 node server.js. Disable that variable in every deployed environment and replace the verifier with the provider’s documented implementation.
Python receiver (Flask)
from flask import Flask, request, jsonify
app = Flask(__name__)
seen = set()
def verify_provider_request(req, raw_body):
# Implement the selected editor's documented signature/timestamp check.
return req.app.config.get("ALLOW_UNSIGNED_TESTS", False)
@app.post("/webhooks/editor")
def editor_webhook():
raw_body = request.get_data(cache=False)
if not verify_provider_request(request, raw_body):
return "Invalid signature", 401
event = request.get_json(silent=True)
if not isinstance(event, dict):
return "Invalid JSON", 400
event_id = event.get("id") or event.get("event_id") or request.headers.get("X-Event-ID")
if not event_id:
return "Missing event identifier", 400
if str(event_id) in seen:
return jsonify(status="duplicate"), 200
seen.add(str(event_id))
print("Accepted editor event:", event)
return jsonify(status="accepted"), 202
if __name__ == "__main__":
app.run(port=3000)
The Flask example is a development skeleton for the same reason as the Node example: the verification function must be replaced with your editor’s actual contract.

Test the route with cURL
curl -i -X POST http://localhost:3000/webhooks/editor
-H 'content-type: application/json'
-H 'x-event-id: test-1'
-d '{"id":"test-1","event":"save","payload":{"document_id":"demo"}}'
Use a provider-generated test delivery whenever available. A successful local cURL request verifies only your HTTP route and parser, not the provider’s signature or production delivery behavior.
Security, reliability, and data handling
Verify authenticity
Follow the vendor’s signature guide exactly, including the signed bytes, timestamp tolerance, secret rotation, and failure response. CKEditor Cloud Services documents signatures and timestamps; that does not establish the same headers or algorithm for Templated, Figma, DocSpring, Adobe, or another service.
Prevent replay and duplicate effects
Record event IDs and processing status in durable storage rather than an in-memory set. Reject stale timestamps when the provider specifies a validity window. Make downstream operations idempotent: a repeated save event should update the same record, not create a second invoice, notification, or export.
Expect asynchronous delivery
Queue work after validation and return the acknowledgement promptly. For providers that document unordered delivery, retain the event timestamp or revision and apply only changes newer than the stored state. Do not claim universal retries or ordering guarantees; those details must come from the selected editor.

Protect tenant boundaries
Never trust a user ID supplied only by the browser. Map the provider’s environment, template, or document identifier to a tenant in your database, and reject events that do not belong to that mapping. Log enough context to investigate failures, but redact document content, tokens, and personal data.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Troubleshooting common failures
The endpoint is never called
- Confirm the provider saved the URL in the correct integration or embed settings.
- Use a publicly reachable HTTPS hostname; a private localhost address cannot receive a provider request without a tunnel.
- Check DNS, TLS certificate validity, firewall rules, and whether the route accepts POST rather than GET.
- Trigger the exact action that has a server event. A browser-only callback will not create a webhook delivery.
Every request returns 401
- Capture the raw body before JSON parsing and verify the provider’s documented signature input.
- Check server clock accuracy when timestamps are signed.
- Confirm the correct environment, secret, and key version; do not log the secret itself.
Events are duplicated
Retries and network failures can produce another delivery after your application has already completed the work. Persist an event or idempotency key before side effects and return a 2xx response for a previously completed key.
State moves backward
This is commonly an ordering issue. If the provider documents asynchronous delivery, compare event timestamps or revisions and ignore an older update. If no ordering field exists, design a conflict policy instead of assuming arrival order equals edit order.
The payload parser fails
Log the content type, payload size, and a redacted sample. Some integrations send a wrapper containing the event name and a nested payload; others use different field names. Validate against the provider’s current examples rather than a schema copied from another editor.

Performance and operating costs
Webhook handling is usually inexpensive compared with editor work, but reliability depends on keeping the request path short. Parse and authenticate synchronously, write a durable queue record, and perform exports, notifications, or database-heavy synchronization asynchronously. Set bounded body sizes and request timeouts, monitor 2xx/4xx/5xx responses, and alert on signature failures and queue age.
Do not publish a universal delivery-rate, retry-count, or uptime promise. The available editor documentation establishes different guarantees for different products, and some details are not stated. Record the selected vendor, event version, and configuration date so a schema change can be rolled out deliberately.
Or skip the browser setup
If your event workflow also needs a dependable screenshot of the editor or a resulting page, ScreenshotNeo can capture a URL through one API request instead of requiring you to manage a headless browser. It accepts consent banners before capture and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be disabled. Bot checks, CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and the response identifies the page verdict and billing result in X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers.
ScreenshotNeo also provides an MCP server for AI agents such as Claude and Cursor, with take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools. Features include full-page and element capture, device presets, dark mode, custom CSS and JavaScript, waits, request blocking, cookies and headers, geolocation, PDF options, signed links, asynchronous jobs, bulk capture, caching, usage reporting, and an OpenAPI specification.

Final implementation checklist
- Identify the editor and exact action.
- Confirm that the action has a documented server webhook or API.
- Configure the HTTPS endpoint in the provider’s integration settings.
- Preserve the raw body and implement the provider’s authentication check.
- Validate the documented envelope and tenant identifiers.
- Deduplicate, queue long work, and handle documented ordering rules.
- Test with the provider’s real event definitions and a production-like endpoint.
- Monitor acknowledgements, failures, duplicates, and schema changes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I point a webhook directly at a browser URL?
No. A webhook target must be an internet-reachable server endpoint. A browser page can receive a callback or iframe message, but it is not a durable server receiver.
Should I expose one endpoint for every editor?
Usually not. A shared ingress route can work when each provider has a distinct secret and a clearly versioned adapter, but separate routes are simpler when payloads or authentication rules differ substantially.
How should I change schemas without losing events?
Store the original verified payload, identify its event version, and deploy a backward-compatible parser before changing the provider configuration. Keep failed deliveries available for replay after the new parser is live.
