A 24/7 stream can help a channel earn eligible public watch hours, but it is not a shortcut to 1,000 subscribers or YouTube monetization. For full ad revenue, channels currently need 1,000 subscribers and either 4,000 eligible public watch hours in the past 12 months or 10 million eligible Shorts views in the past 90 days. The biggest trap for an always-on broadcast is that a stream longer than 12 hours may not be archived, which can put its watch-hour eligibility at risk. This guide explains how to plan the stream, preserve public archives, and grow without assuming the format guarantees results. Thresholds and guidance here were checked on October 3, 2026; recheck YouTube Studio’s Earn tab and the linked policy pages before acting because YouTube has announced a threshold change effective February 1, 2027.
What 1,000 subscribers does—and does not—qualify you for
In India, as elsewhere where the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) is available, reaching 1,000 subscribers is only one condition for the full ads and YouTube Premium revenue tier. As of October 3, 2026, YouTube lists two routes:
- Long-form and public watch-hour route: 1,000 subscribers plus 4,000 qualified public watch hours in the preceding 12 months.
- Shorts route: 1,000 subscribers plus 10 million qualified Shorts views in the preceding 90 days. Shorts Feed watch hours do not count toward the 4,000-hour route.
Meeting a threshold does not guarantee acceptance. Applicants must also follow YouTube’s monetization policies, live in a place where YPP is available, have no active Community Guidelines strikes, enable 2-Step Verification, have access to advanced features, and link or create an AdSense for YouTube account through Studio. YouTube also describes an earlier-access tier for eligible channels: 500 subscribers, three public uploads in the prior 90 days, and either 3,000 long-form watch hours in 365 days or 3 million Shorts views in 90 days. This tier is associated with fan-funding and other features; Watch Page Ads, Shorts Feed Ads, and YouTube Premium revenue are listed at the 1,000-subscriber tier. Check YouTube’s monetization features page for current eligibility and feature availability.
Google India announced the 1,000-subscriber and 4,000-watch-hour threshold when it was introduced in 2018; that historical announcement is not a current India-specific eligibility list. Use the current YPP availability information and the Earn tab in YouTube Studio for your account.

Do livestream watch hours count toward 4,000?
They can, if the viewing is eligible and remains associated with a public livestream that is converted to video on demand (VOD). YouTube excludes watch hours from livestreams that are unlisted, deleted, or not converted to VOD. Watch hours from ad campaigns and views from the Shorts Feed also do not count toward the 4,000-hour route. See YouTube’s YPP eligibility rules.
The crucial issue for a continuous broadcast is its archive. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. A single 24-hour broadcast therefore cannot be treated as a dependable public VOD or a guaranteed source of eligible hours. Plan discrete public streams that finish before the archive limit, then check that each resulting VOD is public and available. Details are in YouTube’s encoder instructions and archive guidance.
Design the stream around viewers, not just the clock
A stream that stays live is not automatically a stream people choose to watch or subscribe to. YouTube’s published eligibility rules establish platform requirements, not a subscriber conversion rate, typical time to 1,000 subscribers, or growth advantage for 24/7 broadcasts. Treat the stream as a recurring program with a clear reason to return, and evaluate whether it is actually attracting viewers and subscribers.

Choose a format you can sustain
- Make the viewer promise specific. State what viewers will hear, see, or be able to follow, and who the stream is for. A distinct focus is more useful than simply announcing that the channel is always live.
- Give the channel a recognizable identity. Use a consistent title and description that accurately describe the content, and make the channel’s purpose easy to understand from the stream page.
- Plan recurring segments. A sequence of named, repeatable portions gives viewers a reason to return and makes shorter broadcast sessions easier to schedule and archive.
- Plan moderation and rights before going live. Decide how chat will be handled, and use only video and audio you have the rights to use. A continuous stream does not exempt a channel from copyright or monetization policies.
- Review outcomes rather than assuming them. Monitor subscriber changes and eligible watch hours in Studio, then adjust the format, schedule, and presentation based on what viewers respond to.
Set up a public livestream and preserve its archive
YouTube offers mobile, webcam, encoder, and console methods. The appropriate option depends on the production: an encoder can support gameplay, overlays, and external audio or video equipment, while a simpler method may be enough for a basic broadcast. YouTube does not name one universally best approach and says expensive equipment is not necessary.
1. Check that the channel can go live
Verify the channel and confirm live streaming is enabled. YouTube requires no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days and says streamers must be at least 16. Review the current Get started with live streaming guidance for the available methods and channel requirements.
2. Choose a workflow that can finish and archive sessions
If eligible watch hours are part of your plan, schedule distinct public broadcasts that end in under 12 hours rather than leaving one broadcast open indefinitely. The archive guidance is a limit on capture, not a promise that every stream under 12 hours will be captured successfully, so verify the VOD after each session.

3. Configure an encoder if your production needs one
In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and use the Live server URL and stream key shown for that broadcast in your encoder. Keep the stream key private: anyone who has it may be able to send a stream to your channel. Use YouTube’s Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder instructions for the current interface and connection steps. The available guidance here does not establish one bitrate, resolution, or keyframe setting for every channel and encoder, so do not copy a universal preset without checking the current YouTube and encoder requirements for your chosen output.
4. Test the stream before relying on it
Run a test, inspect the preview, and check the stream from both the channel or watch page and a mobile device. Confirm that audio and video are working and monitor them during the broadcast. YouTube’s live streaming tips recommend testing and checking the viewing experience; the platform’s guidance says, “You do not need expensive equipment, what you have at hand will do.”
5. End, verify, and retain each public VOD
End each planned session before it reaches 12 hours. Afterward, confirm that the VOD exists and is public; do not delete it or change it to unlisted if you are relying on its eligible public watch hours. Then check the Earn tab in YouTube Studio to track how YouTube attributes progress. Reporting and eligibility can differ from a simple total of visible views or watch time.

The stream is live, but its hours are not appearing as eligible
Check whether the broadcast and its VOD are public, whether the VOD exists, and whether the stream was deleted or made unlisted. Confirm the Earn tab rather than assuming all displayed viewing time qualifies. Unlisted, deleted, and non-VOD livestreams are excluded from the public-watch-hour route.

A long broadcast has no complete archive
Streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured. Break future broadcasts into sessions under 12 hours, end each one deliberately, and verify its public VOD before starting the next session. Do not count an uninterrupted day-long stream as a guaranteed archive.
The encoder does not connect or the stream goes to the wrong place
Recheck that you are using the Live server URL and stream key for the intended YouTube broadcast, and confirm the key has not been exposed or replaced. Use YouTube’s current encoder setup instructions, then test the preview before promoting the stream.
The video is playing but audio or picture is missing
Check the encoder’s selected input and the source itself, then inspect the YouTube preview and watch page on another device. Test before the next public session and monitor both audio and video while it runs.
The stream is attracting few subscribers
A 24/7 schedule does not ensure discovery or subscription growth. Revisit whether the title explains the content, whether the channel has a recognizable focus, whether viewers have a reason to return, and whether chat or other interaction is being moderated. YouTube’s eligibility rules do not promise a growth rate or approval outcome.

Can I reach 1,000 subscribers with a 24/7 stream alone?
It is possible for viewers to discover and subscribe through a livestream, but YouTube does not publish a guaranteed subscriber conversion rate or timeframe for this format. The stream must give viewers a reason to return.
Does YouTube’s 2018 India announcement still define eligibility?
No. It records the threshold announced in 2018. Use YouTube’s current YPP availability and eligibility pages and the Earn tab in Studio for present requirements.
