Cyberpunk 2077 Hotfix 1.05 changed how the game uses AMD Ryzen CPUs with four or six cores; CD PROJEKT RED said processors with eight, 12, or 16 cores were unchanged. If you want to try restoring the older SMT workaround on a Windows PC, the reported method is an unofficial hex edit to Cyberpunk2077.exe. Back up the file first, use only a byte pattern that matches your installed build, and be ready to undo the edit if the game fails to launch or performs worse.
This procedure is for the 1.05-era executable, not a general fix for current versions. Since Patch 2.13, Cyberpunk 2077 has included an in-game AMD SMT control in Settings’ Utilities tab; use that option instead of editing the executable when it is available.

What Hotfix 1.05 changed
CD PROJEKT RED’s Hotfix 1.05 notes say the update optimized default core and thread utilization for four- and six-core AMD Ryzen processors. The notes say eight-, 12-, and 16-core processors remained unchanged and were behaving as intended. The publisher said the change was made with AMD and based on testing that found a performance improvement only on CPUs with six cores or fewer.

Before editing the game executable
- Confirm that you are working with the Windows game executable,
Cyberpunk2077.exe, in the game’sbinx64directory. - Make a copy of the original executable and keep it somewhere safe. Restoring that copy is the rollback method if the game will not launch or results are worse.
- Use a hex editor such as HxD. The byte sequence reported for the 1.05 build must match the executable you have; byte strings from a different patch or build are not interchangeable.
How to apply the reported 1.05 hex edit
- Open the game’s
binx64directory and copyCyberpunk2077.exeto a separate backup location. - Open the original
Cyberpunk2077.exein a hex editor. - Search for this exact byte sequence, reported for the 1.05 build:
75 2D 33 C9 B8 01 00 00 00 0F A2 8B C8 C1 F9 08. - If the sequence is present, change only its first byte, from
75toEB. Leave every following byte unchanged. - Save the executable, then launch the game and check whether it starts and behaves as expected.
- If the pattern is absent, do not substitute a different sequence at random. If the game fails to start or performance worsens, close it and restore the unedited backup.
Why byte-pattern instructions conflict
Community instructions do not agree on one sequence or replacement. A Steam guide documents an earlier sequence beginning 75 30... and an EB replacement; other community posts describe changing a 75 2D... sequence to a 74 variant. HotHardware reports the 75 2D... to EB edit for 1.05. These differences are why the pattern must match the installed executable exactly. The available sources do not establish an official CD PROJEKT RED-supported hex-edit recipe.
Should you use the edit or leave the executable untouched?

CD PROJEKT RED’s Patch 2.13 notes document the later in-game control. Prefer that setting on versions where it is available rather than applying a legacy executable edit.

What performance change to expect
There is no reliable universal FPS gain established for this edit. HotHardware describes user reports ranging from an improvement of up to 11 percent on a Ryzen 7 3700X, to a 10 percent decrease on a Ryzen 9 5900X, to no meaningful change on another Ryzen 9 system. Those reports are not controlled benchmarks and should not be treated as expected results.
