For the most reliable workflow, export your finished edit as a video file, then upload it in YouTube Studio. Some editors, including Premiere Pro, also offer direct publishing to YouTube, but that option and its controls vary by editor. Uploading puts the file on YouTube; choosing a visibility setting is what makes it available to viewers.
Choose how to publish

Prepare and export the finished video
Review the sequence before export
Play the full edit and check the opening, transitions, framing, audio levels, and final frame. Scrub through the export preview as well as the timeline so you can catch framing or output issues before upload.
Premiere Pro export path
- Select the sequence in the Timeline.
- Choose File > Export > Media.
- Select a destination for the rendered file.
- Review the preview and scrub through the video to check how it fits the frame.
- Choose the export format and settings, then export the file.
Settings for a YouTube upload
Adobe recommends H.264 for most online video. Its Premiere YouTube guidance uses H.264 (.mp4), a frame size appropriate to the source and intended output, the source frame rate and aspect ratio, progressive field order, and AAC stereo audio at 48 kHz. Adobe’s guide gives 8 Mbps and 45 Mbps as example target bitrates for 4K; these are illustrative Premiere recommendations, not universal YouTube requirements. - Resolution: Choose a frame size that suits the source and intended presentation; avoid enlarging low-resolution footage simply to select a larger number.
- Frame rate: Match the source where practical to preserve the motion of the edit.
- Aspect ratio: Preserve the source composition. YouTube accommodates vertical, square, and horizontal video; do not add black side bars to vertical footage.
- Bitrate: Higher-quality or higher-resolution files are larger and take longer to upload. The cited 4K bitrate examples are not a guarantee of a particular result.
- Audio: Adobe’s guidance specifies AAC stereo at 48 kHz.

Upload the exported file in YouTube Studio
- Sign in to YouTube Studio.
- Select Create > Upload videos.
- Choose the exported video file. YouTube’s current help page says Studio can accept up to 15 uploads at a time.
- Open Edit for the upload to enter its details and review the available settings.
YouTube processes a video to the highest resolution available. HD and 4K processing can take longer depending on the video’s quality, length, format, and traffic, so allow time before a planned release. Upload timing and the time a video becomes public can differ.

Complete the video details and audience setting
Add details that help viewers understand what the video contains, then set the audience declaration accurately. YouTube’s upload help page lists a 100-character title limit and a 5,000-character description limit.
- Title and description: Use an accurate title and describe the video clearly.
- Thumbnail and playlist: Add a suitable thumbnail and choose a playlist if it helps organize the channel.
- Audience: Answer whether the video is made for kids. This is a required audience setting; make the choice based on the content and intended audience.
- Other options: Depending on the upload, Studio offers settings for age restriction, language and caption certification, tags, category, subtitles, comments, license, and distribution.
YouTube says tags generally play only a minimal role in discovery, except when they help with common misspellings. Do not rely on tags as a substitute for an accurate title and description.

Review captions, video elements, and checks
Where eligible, add subtitles or captions, cards, and an end screen. YouTube’s current help page says a video must be at least 25 seconds long to add an end screen.
YouTube’s copyright check looks for copyrighted material. It runs in the background and may continue after publication; a result is not final and should not be treated as legal clearance or a guarantee that the video may remain up. YouTube also runs likeness detection during Checks. That detection does not restrict visibility, though later policy violations may lead to removal. If you use music, footage, or other material you did not create, make sure you have the necessary rights or permissions; a passed check does not replace that responsibility.

Set visibility and publish or schedule

- Choose Private, Unlisted, or Public, or choose a schedule for a later publication.
- If publishing publicly, decide whether to set it as an instant Premiere if that option is available and appropriate.
- Review the selection and save or schedule the upload. If you leave the upload flow before selecting visibility, YouTube warns that the video remains private.
If you upload privately or as unlisted and make the video public later, the upload date and public publication date can differ. Confirm the visibility selection before leaving Studio.

The available steps and settings are specific to Premiere and may change; authorize the destination account and review the publishing options shown in your version. Afterward, check the upload in YouTube Studio for its details, checks, audience setting, and visibility rather than assuming the editor completed every step.

Common problems and fixes
- The video looks cropped or has bars: Recheck the sequence and export frame size and aspect ratio. Preserve the source composition; YouTube advises against adding black side bars to vertical video.
- The upload is visible only to you: Check the visibility setting in Studio. A video left without a selected publication choice remains private.
- The video is public but not yet available in its highest quality: Processing may still be underway, particularly for HD or 4K. Wait for processing to finish before judging the available resolution.
- A copyright check is still running or reports a match: Checks can continue after publishing and are not final. Review the match and confirm you have the rights or permissions needed for the material; do not treat a passed check as clearance.
- Direct publishing is unavailable: The integration depends on the editor. Export a local video file and use Create > Upload videos in YouTube Studio.
- A scheduled video is not public yet: A scheduled upload remains private until its selected publication time. Verify the scheduled date, time, and visibility in Studio.
