Keep the factory-installed inner-screen protector in place, keep grit and hard objects away from the open display and hinge, and clean the screen only as the phone maker instructs. Foldable inner displays are flexible, model-specific assemblies; no general-purpose film or case is established as a way to keep fine dust out of every foldable.
Keep the factory-installed protector in place
Do not peel up or remove the protector unless the manufacturer gives instructions for your exact model. Google’s Pixel Fold safety guide says, “Do not remove or peel back the pre-installed screen protector, as it can cause damage.” Google’s Pixel Fold safety and regulatory guide applies to the Pixel Fold, not every foldable phone.
Samsung says the protector on its Galaxy foldables is designed to withstand folding and unfolding while helping protect against scratches and debris. Motorola says the Razr Fold ships with a protector customized for its foldable design. Those are model-specific descriptions, not a universal replacement or removal policy. If the film bubbles, lifts, or is damaged, contact the manufacturer or an authorized service provider for guidance before applying another film.
Keep grit away from the screen and hinge
Before folding the phone shut, check both inner-screen halves and the hinge area for sand, dirt, crumbs, or other loose particles. Google warns that fine particles can scratch or damage a foldable display or hinge when the phone closes. Wipe or remove debris gently using the method specified for your model; do not drag grit across the screen.

When practical, keep the phone closed in dusty or sandy surroundings. Motorola specifically advises avoiding dust exposure because dust can reduce hinge life or damage the display. Closing the phone when it is not in use is a cautious handling practice, not a guarantee against dust entering the device. Do not assume that a water-resistance label means the inner screen or hinge is protected from fine dust.
Avoid pressure and sharp objects
Keep keys, coins, pens, fingernails, and hard or pointed cleaning tools away from the open inner display. Samsung warns that a sharp object could scratch or puncture the main screen. Avoid pressing hard on the crease, rubbing aggressively, or trying to lift the protector’s edge with a fingernail or tool.

Clean the display according to your model’s instructions
Use a clean, soft cloth for ordinary fingerprints or dust, and check the manufacturer’s instructions for permitted cleaners. Samsung mentions a microfiber cloth for removing dust or fingerprints when applying a protective cover. Google’s Pixel Fold guide lists screen wipes or eyeglass cleaner for stains and grime. Motorola advises against abrasive or bleach-containing cleaners and says not to spray cleaner directly onto the screen. These are brand-specific directions; do not treat one maker’s cleaning method as universal.
A lint-free microfiber cloth is a cleaning aid, not a screen protector or dust barrier. If using any liquid or wipe, follow the exact phone model’s official guidance rather than improvising a method.

Choose accessories for the exact phone model
A case may help protect exterior surfaces, but the cited manufacturer guidance does not establish that a case prevents fine dust from reaching the inner display or hinge. Check that a case is designed for your precise model and does not interfere with folding or hinge clearance. Motorola directs users toward accessories designed for its phone; that does not make every accessory suitable for every foldable.
Likewise, do not assume a generic replacement film will fit or fold safely. If replacement is needed, ask the manufacturer or authorized service provider what is appropriate for your model. The cited guidance does not establish a universal protector, replacement process, dust-resistance rating, warranty outcome, or cleaning method for all foldables.
