To profile Angular in Chrome, enable Angular’s profiling integration in a development build, record the slow load or interaction in Chrome DevTools’ Performance panel, then inspect the Angular track alongside browser activity. Use Angular DevTools’ Profiler when you need a closer view of change-detection cycles and component timings.

Before you start: use a development build

Angular’s profiling integration depends on development-mode debug features. Production optimizations remove the features needed to connect the Angular track to the application, and enableProfiling() is a no-op in production mode. Angular says ng serve disables optimizations by default. If you need to profile a deployed app, Angular’s overview documents setting the build’s optimization option to false. See Angular DevTools Overview and the enableProfiling API.

Record Angular activity in Chrome’s Performance panel

  1. Enable profiling. In the Chrome DevTools console, run ng.enableProfiling(). Alternatively, import enableProfiling() from @angular/core and call it in your startup code. To capture startup activity, call it before bootstrapping the application.
  2. Capture the workload. Open Chrome DevTools’ Performance panel, start a recording, reproduce the slow page load or interaction, and stop the recording.
  3. Inspect the Angular track with the browser timeline. Angular adds framework-specific events alongside browser performance data. Use the tracks together to see whether the interval involves Angular execution, another script, or browser work such as layout and paint.
  4. Follow the relevant work. Inspect the events associated with the component, service, lifecycle hook, or change-detection activity implicated by the recording. Angular’s track distinguishes developer TypeScript, compiled template code, and application entry points or execution reasons.

Angular’s guide to the integration is Profiling with the Chrome DevTools.

Choose the right profiling view

Tool Best for What it shows
Chrome DevTools Performance panel Understanding how Angular work relates to the full browser timeline, other scripts, and rendering. Browser performance data correlated with Angular framework events.
Angular DevTools Profiler Inspecting change-detection cycles and the components and directives involved. A bar for each cycle; selecting a bar reveals component timings, and a flame-graph-like view shows work through the rendered hierarchy. Recordings can be saved as JSON and imported later.

The tools complement each other: Chrome provides the wider browser context, while Angular DevTools focuses on Angular’s component structure and change detection. The Angular DevTools Profiler guide explains recording, importing, and reading profiles.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Read the profile without over-interpreting it

  • Browser activity without Angular-track activity: A slow interval containing browser work but no visible Angular events can point you toward rendering or another script. Treat that as a clue, not proof that Angular is uninvolved.
  • A taller Profiler bar: It represents a change-detection cycle that took more time. Select it to see participating components and directives and their timings.
  • A concentrated section of the flame graph: Compare components within the same selected cycle to find where work is concentrated in the render hierarchy.
  • Track colors: Angular uses categories for developer TypeScript, compiler-transformed template code, and entry points or reasons for execution. Use them to orient your investigation, then inspect the detailed calls.
  • Repeated synchronization passes: Multiple passes in one change-detection cycle suggest that state is being updated during change detection. Angular warns this can slow updates and, in the worst case, contribute to an infinite loop.
  • Components that did not run change detection: Angular DevTools’ Profiler view distinguishes components that ran from those that did not, including some OnPush components that were not re-rendered.

What to investigate when a component is slow

Angular evaluates template expressions and runs lifecycle hooks during change detection. Because this work is synchronous, one slow expression or hook can delay the overall process. Check the component’s template and the hooks involved in the profile, paying particular attention to ngDoCheck, ngAfterContentChecked, ngAfterViewChecked, and ngOnChanges. Angular’s Slow computations guide describes these costs.

Choose a follow-up based on the bottleneck the recording actually reveals. For unnecessary runtime cycles, Angular’s performance guidance covers zoneless change detection, skipping subtrees with OnPush, fixing slow computations, and reducing zone pollution. For slow initial loading, it discusses lazy routes, @defer, image optimization, and server-side rendering. These are options to evaluate against your profile, not automatic fixes.

Open a component in Angular DevTools

A selected Angular event may include a component link. Following it requires the Angular DevTools extension and, according to Angular’s profiling guide, Chrome’s experimental chrome://flags/#enable-devtools-deep-link-via-extensibility-api flag. If that link is unavailable or you do not need component-level inspection, continue with the event details in the Performance panel.

Verify the change

After making a targeted change, record the same load or interaction again under comparable conditions. Compare the relevant Angular events and browser work rather than assuming an optimization helped because the code changed. A profile identifies where to investigate; it does not by itself establish which remedy will improve the result.
