There is no documented YouTube Live setting that prevents a prerecorded feed from playing the same episode twice in succession. First identify where the sequence is controlled: edit a regular YouTube playlist if viewers are watching that playlist, or fix the media queue or next-item logic in the encoder if it is an encoder-produced live feed. In either case, check the transition where a playlist loops; shuffle alone does not guarantee a different episode at the boundary.
First, find where the repeat is coming from
A YouTube playlist watched in YouTube’s player and a live broadcast assembled by an encoder are different playback paths. YouTube’s published live-stream settings describe broadcast and encoder setup, but do not document an anti-repeat control for adjacent episodes. YouTube’s live-stream settings guide covers broadcast configuration rather than sequence deduplication.
- Playlist watched on YouTube: the episode order and membership are controlled by the playlist. Check the list for duplicate entries and review its order.
- Encoder-produced live feed: the encoder or automation chooses the files sent to the broadcast. Check that media source and its queue, not just YouTube’s event settings.
The YouTube Live Streaming API distinguishes the broadcast from the stream that carries its video. Changing event metadata or scheduling should not be assumed to change which episode the encoder plays next. See Understanding Broadcasts and Streams.

- Open YouTube Studio and go to the playlist editor for the playlist in question.
- Inspect the full list for the same episode added more than once, including entries that may have different titles but point to the same video.
- Remove an unintended duplicate, then drag videos into the intended order. YouTube Help documents playlist editing and reordering, but does not describe an automatic check that prevents adjacent duplicate entries: Manage playlists in YouTube Studio.
- Check how the playlist is being played. YouTube’s player has a loop control for playlist playback; a loop repeats the playlist, so inspect the last-to-first transition as well as neighboring entries within the list. The loop control is not an anti-repeat rule. See Loop videos or playlists on YouTube.
Shuffle changes playback order, but should not be treated as a guarantee that the same episode cannot occur twice consecutively, particularly across a loop boundary.

If an encoder is sending the cartoon episodes
Inspect the actual media source
Open the encoder’s scene and identify the source feeding the live output. Review its playlist, file list, or automation queue for duplicated entries. One documented workflow example uses an OBS VLC Video Source with local videos and playlist looping; it is an example setup, not a YouTube feature or a universal guarantee: How to Loop a Lecture Playlist 24/7 on YouTube with OBS.
Use a no-immediate-repeat rule for automated playback
If software selects the next episode automatically, track the ID or filename most recently sent. When choosing the next item, exclude that last-played item from the candidates. This directly prevents an adjacent repeat, provided there is more than one eligible episode. Ordinary random shuffle does not impose that constraint.

For a queue that loops, apply the same check across its boundary: compare the final episode of one pass with the first episode of the next. A sequence with no duplicate neighbors inside a pass can still repeat at the boundary.
Treat browser-source randomization as a shuffle, not a guarantee
An OBS community post describes randomizing YouTube playlist IDs in a browser source: Randomize the YouTube playlist as browser source in OBS. Randomization may change order, but the cited approach does not establish a guarantee against consecutive repeats or a different first episode on each loop.

Preview and troubleshoot before going live
- The same episode appears twice within a YouTube playlist: inspect playlist membership for duplicate video entries and remove or reorder them.
- The repeat happens only when the sequence restarts: compare the last item with the first item. Shuffle or random selection may not prevent a boundary repeat; use a selector that excludes the last-played episode.
- The YouTube playlist looks correct, but the live feed repeats: inspect the encoder’s actual source and queue. The live feed may not be using the playlist you edited.
- A broadcast setting change has no effect: check the encoder’s sequence logic. Broadcast metadata and scheduling do not determine the next media file.
Before going live, preview the outgoing sequence and watch its first transition. If playback is automated, keep a simple log of episode IDs or filenames so you can verify the actual sequence, including its loop boundary.
