If that does not work, diffuse or bounce the light, and check whether your monitor or another bright screen is reflecting in the glasses. The best position depends on your camera, lights, lenses, and posture, so make adjustments while looking at the actual preview.
Why glasses glare on camera
Light can reflect off eyeglass lenses toward the camera. When a light sits close to the camera’s axis, that reflection may appear as a bright patch over one or both eyes. The monitor and other illuminated screens can create separate reflections. The practical fix is to change the path of the light reaching the camera, while keeping your face lit the way you want.
There is no single angle or distance that works for every setup. The camera, light, lenses, and wearer all affect what the camera sees; judge the result in your own live preview rather than relying on a fixed placement rule.
Adjust your lighting in the camera preview
- Start with your normal streaming position. Turn on the camera preview, sit or stand as you will on stream, and look toward the lens. Check both lenses.
- Move the key light to one side of the camera. Make a small change and watch whether the reflection shifts or disappears. Avoid moving several lights or changing multiple settings at once.
- Adjust height and downward angle. Raise or lower the light, then aim it downward in small increments. Keep checking the reflection as you make each change.
- Preserve the look of your face. If moving the light leaves one side too dark or creates hard shadows, rebalance with fill light or try a softer lighting approach.
- Check again in your usual posture. A reflection that disappears when you look straight ahead may return when you glance at another screen or change your head position.
If repositioning is not enough
Diffuse the source
Diffusion softens a direct light source and may make its reflection less sharp while still lighting your face. If your existing light cannot be repositioned or softened, a diffused LED light or softbox is an optional purchase—not a requirement.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Bounce light off a pale surface
Aim the light at a nearby pale wall or reflector so the reflected, broader light illuminates you. Check for unwanted shadows and adjust fill light if the new setup makes your face look uneven.
Check screens and other bright sources
Once the key light is adjusted, inspect the preview for reflections from your monitor, secondary displays, or other bright sources. Change a screen’s angle or brightness if its reflection is visible. Treat each source separately so you can tell which adjustment helped.

Consider lens coating when replacing glasses
An anti-reflective coating may reduce reflections, but it does not guarantee that studio lights will disappear from your lenses. If you are buying new prescription lenses, you can ask an optician about the coating; it is not a substitute for checking and adjusting the lighting in your preview.
Compare the practical options
| Option | Cost and setup change | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Reposition existing lighting | Uses your current gear; changes where the light sits. | Whether the reflection leaves both lenses without making facial lighting unacceptable. |
| Diffuse or bounce light | Can use an available diffuser, pale wall, or reflector; a softbox or diffused LED is an optional purchase. | Whether the softer or bounced light reduces the visible reflection and still lights your face evenly. |
| Adjust screen or camera geometry | Uses existing equipment; changes screen angle, brightness, or camera/light relationship. | Whether a monitor or another bright source is causing a distinct reflection. |
| Anti-reflective lens coating | Relevant when replacing prescription lenses; involves a lens choice rather than a streaming setup change. | It may help reduce reflections, but does not ensure every light reflection disappears. |
Troubleshoot persistent glare
- Glare remains after moving the key light: Adjust its height and downward angle, then check again. There is no universally optimal angle.
- One lens is clear but the other is not: Check your head position and each lens separately; make small lighting changes while maintaining your usual posture.
- The key light no longer reflects, but glare remains: Check the monitor and other bright sources as separate causes.
- Your face looks too shadowed after moving the light: Try diffusion or bounce, then rebalance fill light.
- The glare returns when you move: Repeat the preview check after changing posture or camera position, and make sure both lenses remain clear in the positions you commonly use.
- You are considering a fixed angle or a new product: Treat numeric angle suggestions as starting points, not standards. No particular light brand or model is required by the available guidance.
Or let it run in the cloud
Glare is a camera-and-lighting issue: use the preview adjustments above for an on-camera setup. If your goal is instead to keep uploaded videos playing as a 24/7 YouTube stream, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, and can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo, or start the free first day.
