First identify what is repeating: a sermon may appear twice as separate playlist entries, the whole playlist may be set to repeat, or an archived livestream may be in the playlist when the church does not want it there. Remove an extra playlist entry, switch off Loop/Repeat for a one-pass service sequence, or manage the archive in YouTube Studio. These actions affect different things.
Identify why the sermon is playing twice
- The same sermon appears twice in the playlist: there are duplicate entries. Remove the unwanted occurrence from the playlist.
- The sermon or sequence starts again after reaching the end: the playlist may be set to Loop or Repeat. Turn that playback control off if the playlist should play once.
- An unwanted livestream replay appears among the sermons: it may be an archived stream included in the playlist. Remove its playlist entry if it should remain on the channel; change its visibility or delete it in YouTube Studio if it should not remain available there.
A live archive and a playlist repeat setting are separate. YouTube documents that live archives can be organized into playlists and separately documents playlist repeat controls; archive creation itself is not established as a cause of duplicate playlist entries. Fix the layer that is actually causing the problem.
Remove an extra sermon from the playlist
- Open the church’s intended sermon playlist and scan the entries for the same sermon or replay listed more than once.
- Beside the unwanted occurrence, open the More menu and choose the option to remove it from the playlist. YouTube’s playlist guidance explains how to remove a video and manage playlist order: Create and manage playlists and Manage playlists in YouTube Studio.
- Review the playlist after the change, including its order, before sharing or embedding it again.
Removing an entry from a playlist does not delete the underlying video from the channel. Use this remedy when the sermon should remain available on the channel but should appear only once in this playlist.
Turn off playlist Loop or Repeat
If the sermons play once in order and then start over, check the playlist’s playback controls. Turn off Loop/Repeat for a one-pass sequence. YouTube documents a Loop control in the playlist box on a computer and a Repeat control on TV or gaming consoles; the control’s location depends on the device. This changes playback behavior; it does not remove repeated entries from the playlist. If one sermon is listed more than once, remove the extra entry separately.
Manage an unwanted livestream replay
YouTube says a live stream under 12 hours can be automatically archived. If a replay should not remain on the channel, open YouTube Studio, go to Content → Live, select the archive, and change its visibility or delete it. YouTube’s instructions are in Archive live streams.

- Keep the archive on the channel, but out of this playlist: remove only its playlist entry.
- Keep it but limit who can watch: change its visibility in YouTube Studio.
- Remove it from the channel: delete the archive. YouTube warns that deletion is permanent, so choose a visibility change instead if the church may want the recording later.
Changing an archive’s visibility or deleting it is not the same as editing a playlist entry. Check the playlist itself if the replay should no longer appear there.
Prevent the problem after future services
After each service, review the public sermon playlist: confirm the new archive appears once and in the intended order. If the church wants the archive public but not in the sermon sequence, remove its playlist entry without deleting the channel video.
