You cannot guarantee that a 24/7 YouTube lofi stream will avoid every copyright claim or interruption. The safest approach is to use music you created and control, tracks from the YouTube Audio Library under their stated terms, or music with written permission that expressly covers livestreaming, the archived replay, your territories, and monetization. For licensed third-party music, ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist before broadcasting. YouTube scans live streams, and a license alone does not ensure the broadcast will continue.

Choose music based on the rights you actually need

A lofi playlist can involve rights in both the musical composition and the sound recording, as well as samples, loops, and collaborators’ contributions. Permission for one element does not necessarily clear the others. Before using a track, establish that you have the necessary rights for the specific broadcast and any replay it creates.

Music source What to confirm Practical caution
Your own original music You control the composition and recording, and have cleared any samples, loops, and collaborator contributions. Keep project files, dated exports, and written agreements. Documentation helps establish your rights; it does not prevent automated matching by itself.
YouTube Audio Library Read the individual track’s attribution and use conditions and retain its listing or license record. YouTube recommends the library, but that is not a promise that every separate workflow or third-party claim is impossible. YouTube Audio Library guidance.
Commissioned or third-party licensed music Get written terms expressly covering YouTube live streaming, the archived replay, relevant territories, monetization, term, attribution, and editing conditions. Ask the rights owner or administrator to allowlist your channel in Content ID before going live. A license may not stop an interruption if the channel is not allowlisted.
Creator Music Check current track terms and eligibility for the video format you plan to use. It does not license live streams under YouTube’s current guidance. A license for an eligible long-form upload is not a livestream license. Creator Music usage details and Creator Music FAQ.

Do not rely on a “free,” “royalty-free,” or “YouTube safe” label, artist credit, or description note as proof of permission. Read the actual terms. YouTube says none of its suggested routes guarantees avoiding copyright issues: Copyright on YouTube.

Clear every track before scheduling the 24/7 stream

  1. Inventory the playlist. Record each track title and version, recording, composition, samples or loops, and relevant contributors. Identify who controls each right.
  2. Match permissions to the complete use. For licensed tracks, retain the exact license text, receipt or permission email, licensor identity, track/version, covered territories, term, monetization scope, attribution rules, and express permission for both the live broadcast and its archived replay. YouTube notes that third-party license terms specify where and how music may be used: Copyright on YouTube.
  3. Check channel and replay coverage. Confirm permission applies to the channel that will broadcast and to the replay created when the stream ends. Do not assume a limited term or territory covers an ongoing stream or replay indefinitely; check the contract.
  4. Request a Content ID allowlist entry. Send the rights owner or administrator your channel URL and the relevant track or asset details. Ask them to add the channel through Content ID and get written confirmation before relying on it. YouTube specifically advises licensed creators to request allowlisting: Copyright issues with live streams.
  5. Keep a rights file and playlist log. Store project files, exports, agreements, license records, allowlisting correspondence, and a playlist with timestamps and track details. A log is a useful recordkeeping measure, not a stated YouTube requirement.
  6. Exclude Creator Music tracks from the live playlist. YouTube’s current guidance says Creator Music does not support licensing live content. Its track terms and supported regions vary; check current availability before using it for other formats. Creator Music FAQ.

Monitor the stream and its replay

While live

Keep YouTube Studio open or otherwise monitored for copyright warnings, restrictions, and interruptions. If a warning identifies third-party content, remove or stop that content promptly; YouTube says the stream may continue if you address the warning. A private or unlisted test, territorial restriction, license receipt, or credit in the description does not override Content ID matching. YouTube notes that a licensed stream can still be interrupted without allowlisting, including when restricted to territories where the creator has rights: Copyright issues with live streams.

After the stream

If you choose to archive the broadcast, review the completed video in YouTube Studio. YouTube says Content ID claims can be made after a livestream completes when it is archived. Check the claimant, matched content, timestamps, and territorial effects; different claimants can cover different segments or geographies. An unfamiliar claimant name alone does not establish that a claim is invalid. Learn about copyright claims.

Understand a claim, a strike, and a live interruption

  • Content ID claim: An automated match may result in the video being monetized, tracked, or blocked, with effects that can vary by geography. Claims usually affect the video rather than the channel.
  • Live interruption: YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can prompt a warning, placeholder image, temporary interruption, or termination if the content remains. This can happen before an archived-video claim is issued, and even a licensed stream may be interrupted if the channel has not been allowlisted.
  • Copyright removal request and strike: These are separate from an ordinary Content ID claim. A copyright strike can terminate a live stream and restrict access to livestreaming.

YouTube Help summarizes the live-stream scan this way: “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” Copyright issues with live streams.

What to do when an archived lofi stream gets a claim

  1. Inspect the claim in Studio. Open the video’s copyright details and note the claimant, matched segment, timestamps, policy, and territories affected. A claim can monetize, track, or block the video depending on the rights holder’s policy.
  2. Gather the relevant evidence. Match the claimed segment to your playlist log and collect the license or ownership records and any allowlisting correspondence that applies to that track and use.
  3. Dispute only if you are confident you hold all necessary rights. A credit, a purchase receipt, or a vague “royalty-free” label is not by itself proof that your live broadcast and archived replay are covered. See YouTube’s copyright-claim guidance.
  4. Otherwise, consider Studio’s available remedies. Depending on the claim, YouTube Studio may let you trim the segment, replace the claimed music with Audio Library music, or mute the claimed audio. Review the result before saving: under guidance effective June 2025, saved YouTube Studio Editor changes cannot be reverted. Remove copyright-claimed content from videos.
