To reduce clipping and make a Marathi YouTube playlist sound consistent, prepare the uploaded files separately from any live-encoder settings: use YouTube’s upload format recommendations, measure each programme’s integrated loudness and true peak, normalize conservatively where needed, and listen to both the rendered files and their transitions. Then check the actual YouTube playback before publishing or relying on a stream. YouTube’s cited specifications do not call for a separate encoding workflow for Marathi; that is an inference from its general guidance, not proof that every source file is interchangeable.

First, distinguish playlist uploads from a live encoder stream

A playlist made from uploaded videos and a continuous feed sent by a live encoder are different workflows. For an upload-based playlist, prepare and review each video file, upload it, allow processing to finish, and test playback. For a live encoder, configure the encoder using YouTube’s separate live-stream settings and test the stream before starting it. YouTube publishes distinct guidance for upload encoding and live encoder settings; do not combine them into one universal profile.

Prepare compatible upload files

For ordinary YouTube uploads, the platform recommends an MP4 container, AAC-LC or Opus audio, and a 48 kHz audio sample rate. Its recommended audio bitrate for stereo uploads is 384 kbps. YouTube also recommends H.264 video and matching the frame rate to the recording; consult its full upload recommendations for video settings that depend on resolution.

These are compatibility and encoding recommendations, not loudness targets. The upload guidance cited here does not specify an integrated-loudness target in LUFS. In particular, do not treat a commonly repeated “-14 LUFS” figure as an official YouTube requirement based on this guidance.

Measure loudness and true peak separately

Clipping and uneven perceived volume are related, but they are not the same problem. True-peak measurement and limiting help manage overload risk; integrated loudness helps compare the overall programme level of one playlist item with another. A file can avoid clipping yet still sound conspicuously louder or quieter than the next video.

FFmpeg’s loudnorm filter provides EBU R 128 loudness normalization and controls for integrated loudness (I), loudness range (LRA), and maximum true peak (TP). It supports single-pass and two-pass processing. In dynamic mode, the filter upsamples internally to 192 kHz for true-peak detection; that is internal analysis behavior, not a recommended delivery sample rate. Linear mode depends on measured values and can fall back to dynamic processing when its conditions are not met.

Choose a programme target suited to the content and listening context, and use a conservative true-peak ceiling that leaves headroom. There is no single target established here for every Marathi playlist. As a clearly labeled broadcast reference, EBU R 128 Version 5.0 recommends an average programme loudness of -23 LUFS; that is a European Broadcasting Union broadcast recommendation, not a YouTube upload requirement. See the EBU R 128 publication.

Normalization cannot restore clean sound when distortion is already baked into a badly clipped source recording. If the original is clipped, find a cleaner source if possible, or attempt repair carefully and audition the result rather than assuming a limiter has fixed it.

Review each file and the playlist transitions

  1. Analyze the finished audio programme in each file. Compare integrated loudness across items and inspect true peak; do not rely on a peak meter alone.
  2. Render the processed file and listen to it. Check the loudest passages as well as quiet singing or dialogue, and listen for distortion or other artifacts.
  3. Listen to the beginning and end of each item, then the transitions. Abrupt changes in perceived level can make a playlist feel uneven even when neither file clips.

These listening checks are practical production advice, not a YouTube-mandated playlist mastering protocol. The language of the songs or videos does not itself determine loudness settings; the source material and the intended listening experience do.

Upload and test before publishing

Uploading is not the same as publishing. YouTube Creator Studio’s upload instructions distinguish the upload process from making a video public. Upload a sample or final files as private or unlisted, allow processing to finish, and check actual playback before making the playlist public or starting a stream. YouTube’s formatting specifications recommend test uploads when preferred specifications cannot be met.

For a live encoder stream rather than an uploaded playlist, follow the separate live settings: the advanced settings list AAC or MP3 audio, 44.1 kHz for stereo, 128 kbps for stereo audio, CBR encoding, and a two-second keyframe interval. These live values are not substitutes for the upload-file recommendations. YouTube advises, “Make sure that you test before you start your live stream,” and says tests should include audio and movement similar to the planned stream. Check the preview, monitor stream health, and verify the archive as applicable. Its streaming tips provide additional guidance.
