Yes. You can play supported Xbox Game Pass games on a Meta Quest headset through Xbox Cloud Gaming: open the Xbox app on a supported Quest, sign in with an eligible Microsoft account and Game Pass plan, connect a compatible controller, then launch a game that supports cloud play. The game streams onto a large virtual screen; this does not turn an Xbox game into a native VR title.
What you need before you start
- A supported headset: Xbox currently lists Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest Pro, Meta Quest 3, and Meta Quest 3S. Check Xbox’s VR headset support page if you use another model or support has changed.
- A supported region: Xbox Cloud Gaming is available only in supported regions. Confirm your country on Xbox’s region availability page.
- An eligible plan and game: Essential, Premium, and Ultimate currently include cloud gaming, but cloud-playtime allowances and other plan benefits differ. Most games require an active subscription and must be cloud-playable. Select free-to-play games may be available under separate account and regional requirements.
- A controller: Xbox lists Quest controllers, Xbox Wireless Controller, and Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 as options. A separate Xbox controller is not automatically required; check that a controller you plan to use is compatible.
- A stable Wi-Fi connection: For Quest, Xbox recommends 5 GHz Wi-Fi and at least 20 Mbps for the best performance. This is guidance, not a guarantee of smooth or low-latency play.
Which Game Pass plan works on Quest?
Use a plan that includes Xbox Cloud Gaming and check the allowance shown for your account and region. On Xbox’s plan display accessed October 4, 2026, Essential included 5 cloud-gaming hours per month, Premium 10 hours per month, and Ultimate 15 hours per month. These are the displayed monthly allowances, not unlimited play; verify the live plan page because plan benefits can change.
PC Game Pass is not listed as including cloud gaming in the Xbox terms shown on the VR support page. Do not assume a subscription qualifies simply because it includes PC games. Current plan details are on Xbox Game Pass.
Set up Xbox Cloud Gaming on Meta Quest
- Confirm your headset and location. Check that your Quest model and country are supported before troubleshooting the app or account.
- Install the Xbox app. On the headset, open the Meta Quest Store and search for the current Xbox app listing. Xbox Wire’s December 2023 launch instructions referred to an “Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta)” app and a setup tutorial; storefront names can change, so use the current listing rather than relying on the old Beta label.
- Open the app and sign in. Follow its on-screen setup and sign in with the Microsoft account associated with your eligible plan.
- Connect a controller. Follow the Quest and app prompts to pair your chosen compatible controller. Xbox specifically mentioned Bluetooth-capable Xbox Wireless controllers in its launch instructions; Xbox’s general cloud FAQ also describes compatible controllers connecting by Bluetooth or USB. Check your model’s compatibility if pairing is unavailable.
- Choose a cloud-playable game. Browse the cloud library or a game’s listing and confirm it supports cloud play for your plan, region, and platform. Xbox says availability and features vary; some supported games you own outside Game Pass may also be streamable. Check the live Xbox Cloud Gaming library for a particular title.
- Launch the game and play on the virtual screen. Quest displays the streamed game on a large virtual screen. Use the paired controller—or Quest controls where supported—for game input.
Choose a controller you can actually use
Quest controllers are an option, so buying an Xbox controller is not a prerequisite. A compatible Xbox Wireless Controller or Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 may suit players who prefer familiar physical controls, provided the specific model connects to Quest as required. Xbox’s cloud FAQ covers compatible Bluetooth and USB controller connections; follow the headset’s pairing instructions for your connection method.

If the app does not recognize a controller, check that it is compatible, paired to the headset, and connected in the way the app expects. A controller being an Xbox model does not by itself establish that every version or connection method will work.
Improve streaming reliability
- Use 5 GHz Wi-Fi and aim for 20 Mbps or higher, Xbox’s Quest-specific recommendation.
- Run a speed check where the headset will be used; the result should reflect the headset’s actual Wi-Fi connection, not just a wired or nearby device.
- If the stream stutters, move closer to the router or reduce competing network traffic, then retry. Xbox notes performance can also depend on connection, location, device, and other factors.
Xbox’s general cloud FAQ gives 10 Mbps down as a minimum and says some devices may need 20 Mbps for best quality. For Quest, use the more specific 5 GHz/20 Mbps recommendation rather than treating the general minimum as a performance target.

Common problems and what to check
The app or a game is unavailable
Check the current Meta Quest Store listing, headset support, region availability, and the game’s cloud-play eligibility. A title’s presence in Game Pass does not by itself mean it can be streamed on Quest.
The account cannot start cloud gaming
Confirm that the signed-in Microsoft account has an eligible plan and that the plan’s cloud-play allowance has not been exhausted. Also check whether the game is included or otherwise available to your account.

The picture is laggy or unstable
Check the Quest’s Wi-Fi band and speed against Xbox’s 5 GHz and 20 Mbps recommendation. Connection quality and location matter as well as the speed-test result, so meeting the target does not guarantee a particular latency or image quality.
The controller will not pair
Verify compatibility for the exact controller model, use the headset’s Bluetooth or USB pairing procedure as appropriate, and follow the app’s prompts. Quest controllers are an alternative when supported; a separate Xbox controller is not universally required.

What to verify before choosing a game
Xbox’s library and cloud features can vary by region, plan, platform, and title. Before relying on a specific game, check its current cloud-play listing while signed into the account and region you will use. Plan allowances, supported headsets, and app presentation can also change, so consult Xbox’s live support and plan pages rather than an old setup guide.
