Connect your phone to internet-enabled Wi-Fi, then play the church’s YouTube recording as usual. That uses the Wi-Fi connection rather than your phone’s cellular data. If you need to listen where there is no connection, use YouTube’s Download option over Wi-Fi if it is available for that video, account, and location.
Stream the recording over Wi-Fi
-
Connect your phone to a Wi-Fi network that has internet access. A Wi-Fi symbol alone does not guarantee that the network is online, so open a webpage if playback will not start.
-
Open the church’s video in the YouTube app or a browser and press Play. While the phone stays connected to Wi-Fi, YouTube uses that connection to stream the recording instead of mobile data.
-
If you need to be certain YouTube cannot use cellular data, turn off mobile or cellular data for YouTube in your phone’s system settings, if your device offers per-app controls. Menu names and paths vary by phone, operating-system version, and carrier. You can also temporarily turn off cellular data for the whole phone. YouTube’s Android troubleshooting guidance advises checking mobile-data settings, but it does not establish one universal menu path for Android and iPhone.

This avoids using the phone’s cellular data, but streaming still uses internet service through Wi-Fi. If the Wi-Fi network is metered or subject to a data cap, its usage may still count against that allowance.
Listen later without an internet connection
YouTube may let you save a video for offline playback within the app. Availability depends on the recording, your account, and your location; a church channel or membership does not guarantee that a particular video can be downloaded. YouTube Premium provides downloads where the feature and subscription are available, and YouTube also offers offline downloads in select locations. Check the video itself rather than assuming it is eligible.
-
While connected to Wi-Fi, open the recording in the YouTube app.
-
Tap Download if YouTube displays that option for the video and your account.

In YouTube, open Settings → Background & downloads and enable Download over Wi-Fi only. Menu wording or placement may vary with the app version. YouTube documents this setting to help prevent downloads from using mobile data.
-
If prompted, choose a download quality that suits your storage needs. Higher-quality downloads can use more data and take more storage, so complete the download on Wi-Fi.
-
When you are offline, open Downloads in YouTube and play the saved recording there.
Offline access is not necessarily permanent. YouTube may require the app to reconnect to the internet to verify that a video is still available; the time allowed varies by location and content. A recording can also stop being available offline. Do not treat an in-app download as an exported video file that can be freely moved or redistributed.

Choose the approach that fits where you will listen
| Approach | Connection when listening | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Stream over Wi-Fi | Wi-Fi with internet access is needed during playback. | Confirm the phone is connected to Wi-Fi; restrict YouTube’s cellular access if you need to prevent mobile-data use. |
| Download in YouTube over Wi-Fi | No live connection is needed for playback while the download remains available offline. | YouTube must show Download for that recording and account in your location; allow enough phone storage and reconnect when YouTube requires it. |
If you do not already have Wi-Fi, a router by itself does not provide internet access; it needs a separate internet connection. No particular internet provider can be recommended without knowing your location.
Fix common problems
-
YouTube is using cellular data: Check that Wi-Fi is connected and has internet access. If your phone supports per-app data controls, restrict YouTube’s cellular access; otherwise, temporarily turn off cellular data.
-
There is no Download button: Offline availability depends on the video, account, and location. Check whether YouTube Premium is available and required where you are, but do not assume a subscription makes every recording downloadable.
-
The download used mobile data: Enable Download over Wi-Fi only in YouTube’s Settings → Background & downloads before saving videos. Confirm the phone is on Wi-Fi before starting the download.

-
You cannot find a saved recording: Look in YouTube’s Downloads section. The download is for playback in YouTube, not a general video file in your phone’s gallery.
-
An offline video no longer plays: Reconnect to the internet and open YouTube so it can check availability. Offline access can expire or end if the video is no longer eligible.
-
Your phone is short on storage: Choose a lower download quality or remove downloads you no longer need. Higher quality takes more space. On supported devices, YouTube can use an SD card for eligible downloads when configured for external storage; see YouTube’s instructions for downloading to an SD card.
