To play an intro once, loop a playlist, and finish with an outro, arrange all three in the encoder or playback tool that creates your live video feed: intro → repeating playlist → outro. YouTube Live receives that feed; YouTube Studio does not provide a universal control for looping a playlist or automatically switching to an outro. The exact sequence controls depend on your chosen tool.

How the sequence works

Your encoder or playback tool produces one continuous program and sends it to YouTube Live. Set the intro to play once, the playlist to repeat, and the outro to play when you decide to end the broadcast. YouTube’s Get started with live streaming guide describes connecting an encoder feed; it does not establish a universal sequence editor or end-of-loop trigger.

Because controls vary by tool, check its current documentation for playlist repeat, scene or media transitions, and how to trigger the outro. Do not assume the outro will start automatically after a particular loop unless that tool explicitly supports and documents that behavior.

Prepare your media and sequence

  1. Prepare the intro, playlist videos, and outro. Make sure your selected encoder or playback tool can use the media in the formats you have. Confirm you have the necessary rights to every video and audio element; YouTube’s stream setup guidance says creators must comply with platform policies and rights requirements.
  2. Build the order in your encoder or playback tool. Configure the intro to play once, set the playlist to repeat, and make the outro available as the ending segment. The names and locations of these controls are product-specific.
  3. Decide how you will end the stream. If your tool does not document an automatic transition from the repeating playlist to the outro, plan to trigger the outro yourself. Verify the timing and controls before relying on them during a live broadcast.
  4. Test the entire sequence. Check that the intro plays once, the playlist repeats as intended, and you can trigger and finish the outro. YouTube recommends testing the setup and checking the incoming preview before going live; monitor picture and sound during the broadcast.

Connect the encoder to YouTube Live

  1. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live, then create or select an encoder stream.
  2. Copy the stream URL and stream key from YouTube’s Live Control Room into the corresponding fields in your encoder or playback tool. YouTube describes the key as the credential/address that lets the encoder send the feed for YouTube to accept.
  3. Start the encoder and check the incoming preview in Live Control Room. Confirm picture and sound before starting or sharing the public broadcast.
  4. When you are ready to finish, trigger the outro in the encoder or playback tool, let it play, then stop sending the feed and end the stream in YouTube as appropriate.

Keep the stream key private. If it is compromised, reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder with the new key. YouTube’s Manage live stream settings page describes stream keys as similar to a stream’s password and address.

Do not confuse an outro with a scheduled-stream trailer

YouTube documents a trailer that can play before a scheduled live stream; it is not an ending segment for a looping playlist. The Help page reviewed for this article specifies a trailer duration of 15 seconds to 3 minutes and eligibility of more than 1,000 subscribers with no Community Guidelines strikes. Eligibility and interface details can change, so check the current YouTube Help guidance for your channel. For an outro at the end, include it in the encoder’s sequence instead.

Choose a software or hardware encoder

YouTube supports software encoders and standalone hardware encoders. Choose based on whether the tool supports your media sequence and repeat behavior, how easily you can test and monitor it, the reliability you need for the planned duration, the production complexity, and cost. Dedicated hardware can suit higher-production events, but YouTube also says creators can start with equipment they already have; hardware is not required for this basic workflow.

Troubleshooting the sequence

  • The playlist does not repeat: Check that repeat or loop is enabled in the encoder or playback tool, not just in YouTube Studio. Confirm that the tool supports repeating the playlist you configured.
  • The outro never starts: The tool may not support an automatic transition from a looping playlist. Use its documented manual trigger, or choose a tool that explicitly documents the transition behavior you need.
  • The preview is missing or incorrect: Confirm that the encoder is sending to the selected YouTube stream using the correct stream URL and key, then inspect the incoming preview before going live.
  • The key may have been exposed: Reset it in Live Control Room and replace the saved key in the encoder.
  • Picture or sound is wrong: Test the full sequence before the broadcast and monitor audio and video while live, as YouTube recommends.
