To play a Hindi podcast playlist on YouTube Live from Ubuntu, use OBS Studio’s VLC Video source with authorized podcast files, then connect OBS to a YouTube encoder stream using its stream URL and key. Install VLC first: OBS only shows this source when VLC is installed. Test the playlist and stream privately or unlisted before broadcasting publicly.
Before you start: check permissions and channel eligibility
Make sure you have permission to rebroadcast each podcast episode and any music or other third-party material it contains. A podcast being publicly available does not automatically grant permission to rebroadcast it live. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; if it detects material, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and issue a warning. Continued use can result in a temporary interruption or termination. Even if you have a licence, the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
Your channel must be verified and must not have a live-streaming restriction within the past 90 days. First-time livestream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it in advance rather than waiting until broadcast time. Check YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.

Install VLC as well. OBS’s VLC Video source depends on VLC being installed to appear in the source list. Match architectures: OBS Project notes that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. If VLC Video remains unavailable, check that both applications are installed and compatible. See OBS Project’s Media Sources guide.
Build the podcast playlist scene in OBS
- Create a scene: In OBS, use the Scenes panel to add a scene for the broadcast.
- Add VLC Video: In the Sources panel, select + and choose VLC Video. If it is missing, confirm VLC installation and architecture as described above.
- Add the episode files: In the source properties, add the podcast media files to the playlist in the order you want them to play. Use files you are authorized to rebroadcast and test them in the source before going live.
- Choose playlist behavior: Leave shuffle off to preserve the specified order; enable it if you want randomized playback. Enable loop if the playlist should begin again after its final item.
- Check the scene: Confirm the source is visible and that audio plays at a usable level. If your broadcast needs a static visual, add an appropriate image or other visual source to the scene.
Use VLC Video for a multi-file playlist. OBS’s regular Media Source is intended for an individual media file, although it supports several common audio formats. OBS’s documented playlist controls belong to VLC Video.

This workflow is for media files; it does not establish that OBS can ingest a podcast RSS feed directly as a playlist. If you only have an RSS feed, obtain the episode files through a method permitted by the podcast publisher and test those files locally first.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live, then create or schedule an encoder stream in the Live Control Room.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown by YouTube. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it can send content to your stream.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream, select YouTube as the service, and enter the stream details. Use YouTube’s RTMPS ingest where available.
- Start streaming from OBS and wait for the Live Control Room preview to receive the scene. Confirm the image and audio there before making the stream public.
For YouTube encoder ingestion, its published recommendations include constant bitrate encoding and a two-second keyframe interval. YouTube recommends AAC or MP3 audio and 128 Kbps for stereo audio. The exact location and availability of settings can vary with the OBS build; use the current YouTube encoder settings and bitrate recommendations alongside OBS’s controls.

Choose settings your Ubuntu connection can sustain
There is no single resolution or video bitrate that is right for every Ubuntu computer and internet connection. Choose a quality level that the actual upload connection can maintain, then test it. YouTube recommends that the total stream bitrate remain within available upload bandwidth and advises leaving 20% headroom. A shared or busy connection may deliver less usable upload capacity than its advertised speed.
- Use a speed test near the time and place you expect to stream; select a bitrate below the stable upload capacity, leaving room for other network use.
- Keep YouTube’s recommended two-second keyframe interval and constant bitrate encoding in mind when configuring OBS.
- Use the recommended 128 Kbps stereo audio bitrate if it fits your audio setup and stream configuration.
- Test resolution and bitrate together. If the preview buffers or stream health degrades, reduce the load and test again rather than assuming the nominal connection speed will be available throughout.
YouTube’s encoder settings guide lists a maximum keyframe interval of four seconds, while recommending two seconds. Its streaming tips advise leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom. These are platform recommendations, not a guarantee that a given machine or network will sustain a chosen configuration.

Troubleshooting common problems
| Problem | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| VLC Video is not listed as a source | VLC is missing, incompatible, or the architecture does not match OBS. | Install VLC and check that 64-bit OBS is paired with 64-bit VLC, then restart OBS. |
| A playlist does not advance or repeat as expected | The files were not added to VLC Video’s playlist, or shuffle/loop settings do not match the intended behavior. | Reopen the VLC Video properties, check item order, and set shuffle and loop explicitly. Test a transition before going live. |
| An RSS feed will not play as a playlist | The documented OBS playlist workflow uses media items; direct RSS ingestion is not established here. | Use authorized episode files and test them locally in VLC Video. |
| YouTube does not receive the OBS stream | The stream URL or key may be incorrect, or livestream activation may still be pending. | Recheck the details in YouTube Studio and OBS. If this is the channel’s first stream, allow up to 24 hours for activation. |
| Preview is unstable or stream health degrades | The selected bitrate may exceed the upload capacity available at that time. | Reduce bitrate or resolution, preserve bandwidth headroom, and repeat a test while monitoring stream health. |
| The stream is interrupted over copyrighted material | YouTube may have identified third-party material, or the rights owner’s Content ID allowlist may not include the channel. | Stop and resolve the rights issue with the owner; a licence alone may not prevent interruption if allowlisting is required. |
