Plan a convention visit around five things: a valid ticket, a short list of priority events, time for queues and exploring, a light day kit, and the venue’s current rules. Start with the organizer’s official pages; ticket terms, entry procedures, schedules, accessibility, and security policies vary by event and can change between editions.
How do you buy a ticket to a video game convention?
Use the convention organizer’s official ticket or badge channel when possible. Before paying, confirm the badge type and dates, total price, what areas or activities it includes, and whether anything requires a separate reservation or registration. Check the organizer’s current terms for refunds, transfers, delivery, pickup, timed entry, and ID requirements.
PAX East is one example, not a universal policy. Its FAQ discourages buying badges through resale marketplaces because the organizer cannot verify those badges or determine whether they are legitimate, and may not be able to help if a buyer is defrauded. Read the PAX East FAQ and the destination event’s own ticket instructions before choosing a seller.

For event-specific visitor information, check the organizer’s official PAX East visitor site for items such as maps, hours, entry information, FAQs, and the app. Recheck the corresponding pages for the edition you plan to attend; do not assume a badge or entry process from a past year still applies.

How should you plan a convention schedule?
Use the official schedule to select a few priorities rather than trying to fill every minute. For each panel, demo, tournament, or performance, check its start time, location, age notes, admission method, and whether you need to register in advance. Then leave open time for lines, meals, room changes, and activities you discover on site.
The PAX East schedule includes panels, performances, tournaments, gaming sessions, concerts, and other events. Its FAQ says panel access is first-come, first-served and included with a PAX badge; tournament sign-up varies. Some tournaments use first-come signups, while others use app preregistration or rules set by an exhibitor. Check the individual event details instead of assuming one registration method covers every activity.

When deciding between events, weigh how important each is to you, whether registration or a queue is involved, how uncertain capacity may be, and how long it takes to move between rooms. PAX says its app can help attendees follow panel lines and find current event and map information. That can make changes easier, but keep a flexible plan rather than relying on perfect timing.

Pack for a long day of walking, but keep the load light. PAX’s attendee hints recommend comfortable footwear, a water bottle, food or another way to maintain energy, and a portable battery or power bank. Treat those as useful examples, not guarantees that every venue permits the same items.

- Portable power bank and cable: Bring a compatible cable so you can recharge your phone. PAX specifically recommends a portable battery or power bank because charging handheld devices can be challenging at the show.
- Comfortable walking shoes: Choose shoes you can wear for an extended day on your feet.
- Water and a small snack: Check the venue’s current food and drink rules first. PAX says outside food is allowed at its event and recommends bringing a water bottle; another convention or venue may have different restrictions.
- Small bag: A compact daypack can hold essentials and purchases, but verify bag-size limits and screening rules. PAX’s 2026 rules say attendees’ bags are checked at event entrances.
- Personal essentials: Pack any medication, access aid, or sensory support you normally need, following venue policy. Contact the organizer ahead of time if you need an accommodation.
How do you navigate the venue and handle unreliable Wi-Fi?
Before you arrive, review or save the venue map, schedule, ticket instructions, and any entry details you may need. PAX describes its app as a resource for schedules, show maps, FAQs, and navigation, but its FAQ warns that venue Wi-Fi may become unreliable when many attendees are connected. Do not make internet access your only way to find a ticket, map, or essential detail.
On arrival, identify information desks, accessibility services, medical support, and event staff or enforcers. If your plan changes, check official event channels for updates rather than relying only on attendee posts or old screenshots.

Which safety and accessibility details should you verify?
Read the destination event’s current rules before traveling, especially its conduct, security, photography, bag, and cosplay-prop policies. These vary by organizer and venue. PAX publishes its own safety information; its prop rules should not be treated as another convention’s rules. At the event, report safety concerns to staff, as PAX asks attendees to do.
