To create a trip itinerary on Tripadvisor, open Trips and either build a plan from places you have saved or ask the AI Assistant for recommendations. Give the assistant your destination, dates, and who is traveling; review its day-by-day suggestions, then save the plan to Trips so you can edit, rearrange, and share it. You can start AI trip planning without an account, but Tripadvisor says you must sign in to save trips and access chat history.
Choose how to start your Tripadvisor itinerary
Tripadvisor’s current U.S. English Trips page presents two ways to begin: use saved places to build a trip, or use AI for custom recommendations. It also describes Trips as a place to organize ideas and collaborate with friends. The page may prompt you to sign in.
- Start with saved places if you have already collected hotels, restaurants, attractions, or other trip ideas and want to curate the plan yourself.
- Start with the AI Assistant if you want suggestions organized around a destination and trip details, then refine those suggestions into an itinerary.
Open Tripadvisor Trips and choose the starting point shown in your account. The interface may change, so use the controls currently displayed rather than expecting every older My Trips instruction to match.

Create a day-by-day plan with the AI Assistant
- Describe your trip. Provide the destination, dates or trip length, and who is coming. For example, Tripadvisor suggests prompts such as “Plan a 3-day foodie itinerary in Rome” and “3-day itinerary for Tokyo in spring.” The assistant may ask follow-up questions.
- Review the recommendations. The assistant can suggest places such as hotels, restaurants, and things to do. Check that the proposed activities fit your dates, interests, and pace before treating them as your plan.
- Save the itinerary to Trips. Tripadvisor says a saved day-by-day plan can be edited, rearranged, and shared with travel companions.
You can begin planning with the AI Assistant without creating an account. Sign in when you want to save the itinerary or retrieve chat history. Hotel links may show live pricing and availability, but rates and availability can change; booking may take place through Tripadvisor or a provider.

Organize saved places by day or destination
Tripadvisor’s My Trips FAQ describes saving hotels, restaurants, attractions, reviews, photos, forum posts, and maps, as well as adding dates, notes, maps, and your own information. The FAQ associates saved entries with folders in a member profile and suggests using subfolders to structure a trip.
For a single-destination trip
If your account shows folder and subfolder controls, create a trip folder and use a subfolder for each day. Save places while browsing, or use the search options within a trip folder to add hotels, attractions, or restaurants. Add notes and dates to capture why a place is on the plan and when you intend to visit.

For a multi-destination trip
Use separate folders or subfolders for each destination, then sort saved places by location. The FAQ also describes adding custom information such as flight or rental-car details and confirmation numbers.

Share or print the itinerary
The current Trips page describes collaboration with friends, and the AI Assistant page says a saved plan can be shared with travel companions. Use the sharing controls available on your saved trip.
Tripadvisor’s My Trips FAQ also documents email sharing that creates a read-only version of a trip folder. It says the shared link is available for 30 days and that later edits to the original folder do not update the shared view. Because the current Trips page does not confirm those specific email controls, check whether they appear in your account before relying on them; if you use the FAQ-described link, send an updated share after making changes.

The FAQ describes a printer-friendly view that can include saved items, custom information, maps, and notes. It says you can print a top-level folder with its subfolders or print one subfolder separately. The current Trips page does not confirm that printing remains available, so use this option only if you can see it in your interface.

Tripadvisor’s AI Assistant page describes recommendations drawing on traveler reviews, but it does not provide a publication year for the review-count figure. Treat recommendations as a starting point: verify hours, location, availability, and suitability directly before finalizing plans.
