To keep a self-hosted LiveKit SIP deployment recoverable, make the SIP service configuration reproducible, keep SIP and LiveKit connected to the same Redis service, preserve Redis data using the storage and backup setup for your deployment, and keep trunk and dispatch-rule definitions in an external source of truth that you can inspect and reconcile through the SIP API. Do not assume a volume mounted into the SIP container preserves trunk definitions: LiveKit documents API management for those resources, but does not promise they survive every backend loss or restore scenario.
What needs to persist—and where it belongs
A SIP container is only one part of the deployment. Separate its runtime configuration from Redis data, API-managed telephony resources, and host networking:
- SIP service configuration: The settings needed to start the SIP service, including its LiveKit websocket URL, Redis address, SIP and RTP ports, external-IP behavior, logging, and API credentials. The self-hosting guide shows the service’s configuration requirements. LiveKit SIP server documentation
- Redis: The SIP service communicates with LiveKit through Redis, and the SIP service README says Redis stores SIP session state. SIP and LiveKit should point to the same Redis service with matching connection details. LiveKit SIP service README
- Trunks and dispatch rules: These are resources managed through the SIP APIs. Keep their intended definitions outside the SIP container so you can inspect and reapply them if necessary. LiveKit SIP APIs
- Host networking: The self-hosted setup requires Internet reachability for SIP signaling on port 5060 and media ports 10000–20000. Confirm the host firewall, cloud firewall, routing, and public address behavior for your deployment. LiveKit SIP server documentation
These layers have different recovery requirements. Recreating a container with the same configuration and intact dependencies is not the same as replacing Redis, losing its data, or restoring a host without its network rules.

Make the SIP service reproducible
Declare the SIP service’s configuration in deployment files or a separately managed configuration file, rather than relying on changes made inside a running container. Keep API credentials in an appropriate secret store; avoid committing them in plaintext. Include the values the service needs to reconnect to LiveKit and Redis and to expose its signaling and media ports.
#1 Best Overall
- Dual band router upgrades to 1200 Mbps high speed internet (300mbps for 2.4GHz plus 900Mbps for 5GHz), reducing buffering and ideal for 4K stream
- Full Gigabit Ports - Gigabit Router with 4 Gigabit LAN ports, ideal for any internet plan and allow you to directly connect your wired devices
- Boosted Coverage - Four external antennas equipped with Beamforming technology extend and concentrate the Wi-Fi signals
- MU-MIMO technology - (5GHz band) allows high speeds for multiple devices simultaneously
- Access Point Mode - Supports AP Mode to transform your wired connection into wireless network, an ideal wireless router for home
Two common ways to run the service are Docker Compose and the SIP binary under a native process supervisor. Either can restart the service, but neither by itself preserves external Redis data or guarantees that API-managed resources remain available. Choose the approach that makes configuration, secrets, restart behavior, and port exposure explicit in your environment.
Keep Redis data and the Redis endpoint intact
Use the same Redis service for SIP and LiveKit, and verify the address, credentials, and database selection match. Protect the Redis data using persistence and backup mechanisms suitable for the Redis distribution and hosting setup; LiveKit’s SIP documentation does not prescribe one universal backup policy.

The official SIP Compose example declares a named redis_data volume mounted at Redis’s /data directory. If you use that example, retain and reattach the same named volume when recreating the Redis container. A Docker volume helps keep data across container recreation, but it is not a verified backup against disk or host failure. LiveKit SIP Docker Compose example
Manage trunks and dispatch rules as API resources
Save the desired inbound and outbound trunk and dispatch-rule definitions somewhere outside the SIP container, such as version-controlled deployment configuration with secrets handled separately. Use the SIP API, SDK, or CLI to list and manage those resources, and define a controlled reconciliation or restore step for rebuilding an environment.

- Dual-band Wi-Fi with 5 GHz speeds up to 867 Mbps and 2.4 GHz speeds up to 300 Mbps, delivering 1200 Mbps of total bandwidth¹. Dual-band routers do not support 6 GHz. Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- Covers up to 1,000 sq. ft. with four external antennas for stable wireless connections and optimal coverage.
- Supports IGMP Proxy/Snooping, Bridge and Tag VLAN to optimize IPTV streaming
- Access Point Mode - Supports AP Mode to transform your wired connection into wireless network, an ideal wireless router for home
- Advanced Security with WPA3 - The latest Wi-Fi security protocol, WPA3, brings new capabilities to improve cybersecurity in personal networks
LiveKit describes stored outbound trunks as long-lived configuration objects that it caches and reuses. Reuse a stored trunk when its settings apply across calls instead of creating a new trunk for every call. Inline outbound configuration is documented for call-specific settings; it does not remove the need to preserve dependencies or check resource state after recovery. LiveKit SIP outbound trunk documentation
The documentation reviewed does not make an unconditional guarantee that trunk or dispatch-rule definitions survive every SIP container recreation, Redis replacement, Redis data loss, or host restoration. Do not treat the SIP container’s filesystem as the source of truth for these API-managed resources. Check their state through the API after recovery and reconcile them from your saved definitions when needed.

- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
Restore and verify after a restart or reboot
- Start dependencies: Confirm Redis is running with the intended data attached, then start LiveKit and the SIP service using the declared configuration.
- Check connectivity: Confirm the SIP service can reach the configured Redis service and LiveKit. Review service logs for connection or configuration errors.
- Check resource state: List trunks and dispatch rules through the SIP API. Compare the returned resources with your intended definitions and restore or reconcile any that are missing.
- Check network access: Verify the firewall and routing still allow the required signaling and media traffic, including after host or cloud-network changes.
- Exercise a call path: When appropriate, place an inbound or outbound test call to confirm the restored configuration works end to end.
This is an operator verification procedure, not a claim that a particular restart or recovery has been tested. It helps distinguish a service startup problem from missing API resources, unavailable Redis data, or changed network reachability.
