For Apple’s U.S. checkout, the choice comes down to whether you want to buy iPhone 18 Pro now, finance a purchase with Apple Card, or lease through Klarna. Apple lists the phone from $1,199. Apple Card Monthly Installments (ACMI) finance a purchase for approved cardholders; Apple Upgrade through Klarna is a lease, so its monthly payments alone do not make you the owner. Details and prices below reflect Apple’s information checked October 7, 2026, and can change.

How the three checkout options differ

Option What you pay What happens to the phone Application and carrier requirements
Pay outright The selected model price plus applicable checkout charges You buy the device; there is no lease return obligation. No installment application is indicated for an ordinary purchase. Carrier requirements depend on the checkout route.
Apple Card Monthly Installments Eligible purchase balance in monthly installments at 0% APR; taxes and shipping are subject to the Apple Card’s variable APR. You finance a purchase, not a lease. Apple Card approval and available credit apply. For iPhone, select AT&T, T-Mobile, or Verizon at checkout.
Apple Upgrade through Klarna Monthly lease payments, plus applicable taxes and any other charges under the lease. You return the phone in good working condition, enter a new lease to upgrade, or pay the purchase option. Payments alone do not transfer ownership. Klarna eligibility and creditworthiness review apply. Select an eligible carrier; prepaid plans are excluded.

Apple says an iPhone purchased with ACMI is unlocked. It also describes a leased iPhone as unlocked, subject to carrier terms. Apple’s U.S. checkout routes are distinct offers, not interchangeable ways to describe the same monthly price. Apple’s U.S. financing overview describes the available checkout routes.

What does iPhone 18 Pro cost upfront?

Apple announced a U.S. starting price of $1,199 for iPhone 18 Pro and identifies that price with the 256GB model. Storage options are 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB; a higher-capacity configuration costs more. The amount due for an outright purchase is the price of the selected configuration plus applicable taxes, shipping, and other checkout charges, less any trade-in credit applied. Apple does not state one universal tax-inclusive total, so check the final checkout amount for your location and selection. Apple’s September 9, 2026 announcement gives the U.S. starting price and configurations.

Trade-in and carrier promotions can change the amount due, but they are not guaranteed reductions. Apple’s announcement says an iPhone 13 or later trade-in may yield $175–$885 in instant U.S. credit, depending on condition, year, and configuration. It also lists carrier credits up to $1,200 for eligible iPhone 14 or later trade-ins in any condition. Those are time-sensitive offers; check current eligibility and terms before relying on them.

What do I need to qualify for Apple Card installments?

Select Apple Card Monthly Installments as the payment method during Apple checkout and pay with Apple Card. ACMI is financing for an eligible purchase, not a lease. Apple describes eligible ACMI purchases as having 0% APR, but Apple Card approval and credit limit apply; neither a particular approval nor a specific limit is guaranteed. For an iPhone purchase using ACMI, Apple requires selecting AT&T, T-Mobile, or Verizon as the carrier. Apple says the iPhone bought this way is unlocked.

The 0% APR applies to eligible purchase installments, not necessarily every charge at checkout. Apple says taxes and shipping on an ACMI purchase are subject to the Apple Card’s variable APR. Your own rate and terms depend on your account. Installments appear in Wallet and contribute to the minimum payment due. See Apple’s ACMI explanation and the current checkout terms; Apple notes that some special online storefronts are excluded and terms may change.

What does Apple Upgrade through Klarna require?

Apple Upgrade is a consumer lease administered through Klarna—not a purchase loan or a 0% financing plan. At Apple checkout, choose Apple Upgrade, apply with Klarna, and select an eligible carrier for the iPhone. Apple identifies AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon as eligible carriers; prepaid plans are excluded. The leased iPhone is described as unlocked, subject to carrier terms.

Application and payment requirements

Apple’s live FAQ says first-time applicants provide their legal name, date of birth, phone number, email, billing address, and Social Security number. Applicants need to meet Apple’s U.S. residence, minimum-age, legal-capacity, and text-verification requirements, and have an eligible U.S. credit or debit card; prepaid cards are excluded. Apple’s launch terms also list a Klarna account and an Apple Account in good standing. Klarna’s review includes a soft credit check that Apple says will not affect the credit score, but approval still depends on eligibility and creditworthiness.

Apple says the first lease payment is due about 30 days after the phone ships or becomes available for pickup, and that there is no security deposit. Apple Upgrade accepts debit cards and select major credit cards for Klarna payments, subject to network and issuer exclusions; Apple Pay and PayPal are not accepted for Apple Upgrade. AppleCare and accessories not financed through Klarna are charged separately by Apple. Check Apple Upgrade’s current FAQ for the full, current requirements and payment exclusions.

What the monthly lease figures cover

Apple’s September 2026 announcement lists the following Apple Upgrade figures for iPhone 18 Pro. Payments exclude taxes and trade-in credit; the 256GB figures are examples, not quotes for every storage capacity.

Rank #3
Apple iPhone 17 Pro, US Version, 256GB, eSIM, Deep Blue- Unlocked (Renewed)
  • Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
  • Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
Configuration or range 12-month lease 24-month lease
iPhone 18 Pro 256GB example $49.99 per month $34.99 per month
iPhone 18 Pro model-wide typical range $49.99–$100.03 per month $34.99–$70.01 per month

The model-wide ranges reflect higher-priced configurations; the starting payment is not the quote for every storage model. Do not multiply a monthly lease payment and treat the result as an ownership price: buying the leased phone requires the separate purchase option under Klarna’s terms. Apple’s figures and offer details may change.

Do you own the phone after leasing it?

No. Apple defines Apple Upgrade as a lease. At the end of the initial term, you can return the phone in good working condition, upgrade by entering a new lease, or pay Klarna’s purchase option to keep it. The purchase option is separate from the scheduled lease payments.

If you take no action at the end of the term, the lease can continue month-to-month for up to six months. Apple says a purchase fee may follow if you take no action during that extension. Returning early or terminating generally requires paying the remaining lease payments and applicable taxes. A device not returned in good working condition may incur damage fees. AppleCare is separate and is not included with the lease. Read the live Apple Upgrade lease FAQ for the applicable return and purchase terms.

Which route fits your priorities?

  • Choose outright payment if you want to pay the selected purchase price and checkout charges now and avoid an installment application or lease-end return decision.
  • Consider ACMI if you want to buy the phone while spreading eligible purchase payments across your Apple Card billing, and you meet Apple Card approval and carrier-selection requirements. Account terms govern charges outside the eligible installments.
  • Consider Apple Upgrade if leasing suits your plans and you are comfortable with Klarna review, eligible-carrier requirements, lease payments, and deciding whether to return, upgrade, or buy the phone at term end.

Before choosing, compare the amount due now and the total you may pay, whether ownership matters, approval requirements, carrier eligibility, taxes and shipping, trade-in treatment, and the cost of leaving a lease early. Apple’s financing page outlines its checkout routes; Apple’s terms govern the specific offer available when you place your order.
