Use n8n’s HTTP Request node to send the page URL and viewport width and height as query parameters, then set its response format to File to receive the screenshot as binary data. The example below uses ScreenshotOne’s documented API fields; other providers may use different parameter names and authentication.
Prepare the workflow data
Before the HTTP Request node, add a Set or Edit Fields node that provides the page URL and dimensions. For example:

Configure the HTTP Request node

Add an HTTP Request node after the node that creates the input fields. Set Method to GET and URL to
https://api.screenshotone.com/take. The HTTP Request node is n8n’s built-in option for making REST API calls. n8n HTTP Request documentation -
Enable Send Query Parameters. Add the provider’s parameters with these values:

In the response settings, choose File as the response format and set the output field name expected by downstream nodes. This makes the response available as binary/file data rather than treating it as ordinary text or JSON.

For debugging, enable Include Response Headers and Status. By default, the node returns the body and treats 2xx responses as successful; response settings can be adjusted if you need to branch on status or inspect headers. n8n HTTP Request documentation

Run the workflow with a public webpage first. Inspect the HTTP Request output for its binary data field and verify that a downstream node can use it.
What the viewport dimensions control
Viewport width and height describe the browser’s page-rendering area, in pixels; they are not necessarily the final image dimensions. ScreenshotOne documents defaults of 1280 × 1024 pixels when viewport dimensions are not supplied. Its API’s viewport_width and viewport_height parameters are specific to ScreenshotOne, not universal screenshot API names. ScreenshotOne screenshot options
Responsive layout and device emulation
Width can move a page across responsive CSS breakpoints, changing navigation, columns, and content visibility. ScreenshotOne also supports device emulation through a device option; it describes this as emulation, not a capture from a physical device. Explicit dimensions can override related emulated viewport properties. Check the selected provider’s reference for its device and viewport behavior.
Full-page capture
For a full-page screenshot, width still affects responsive layout, but height may be used differently depending on the capture algorithm. ScreenshotOne’s default full-page algorithm may stretch the viewport to the page height; its by_sections algorithm uses the viewport height for each captured section. If comparing captures, keep the algorithm consistent and check both the resulting layout and image dimensions. ScreenshotOne full-page screenshot documentation

Adapt the request for another screenshot provider
The workflow pattern remains the same: map the URL and dimensions into the provider’s request, authenticate as that provider requires, and request a file response if you need image bytes. The endpoint, parameter names, key placement, URL encoding rules, limits, and error responses vary. Do not assume that another API accepts ScreenshotOne’s viewport_width, viewport_height, or access_key fields; use its current API documentation. n8n can import a provider’s cURL example, but imported values may be strings. If numeric or boolean types matter, switch the query parameter input to JSON and set the types appropriately. n8n HTTP Request documentation
Troubleshooting

The API says the URL is missing. Confirm the incoming item has the property referenced by the expression and that the parameter name matches the provider’s documentation. Test with a literal public URL to distinguish a mapping problem from a provider error.

The request uses the wrong dimensions. Check the input field names and the expression values, then confirm the provider’s parameter names and units. For ScreenshotOne, the dimensions are pixel values supplied as

The result is text or cannot be passed as an image. Set the HTTP Request response format to File, choose the expected output field, and confirm downstream nodes reference that binary property.

The request returns an authorization or API error. Verify the key and its placement against the selected provider’s documentation. Authentication details are not interchangeable between providers.

The workflow succeeds but the page looks different than expected. Check the viewport width for responsive breakpoints, whether device emulation is enabled, and—if capturing a full page—which full-page algorithm is selected.

A request imported from cURL behaves differently. Inspect the node’s imported query values and types. n8n notes that imported values are strings; use JSON parameter input when preserving numeric and boolean types is important.
