If the Galaxy S22 Ultra S Pen’s button or Air actions stop working, push the pen fully into its slot and leave it there to reconnect and charge. Screen writing is separate: the pen can still write even when its wireless Air actions connection is not working.
Reconnect the S Pen and check its charge
The S Pen is stored and charged inside the Galaxy S22 Ultra. If Air actions disconnect, insert the pen fully into its slot and wait for it to reconnect. Keep it near the phone while you test. Samsung advises leaving the pen inserted during a connection or reset process.
You do not pair this S Pen through the phone’s standard Bluetooth menu. Its wireless remote features connect through the S Pen settings. Writing directly on the display does not depend on Air actions, so test writing and the button separately.

Check Air actions, permissions, and phone settings
- Open Settings > Advanced features > S Pen > Air actions and make sure Air actions is enabled. Menu wording can vary with the phone’s software version.
- If the feature is on but commands do not work, open Settings > Apps, find the Air command system app, and check that its Nearby devices and Physical activity permissions are allowed.
- Turn off Airplane mode and check whether a power-saving setting is restricting wireless features, then test again.
Rule out distance and accessory interference
Air actions use a wireless connection and have limited range; do not treat Samsung’s stated operating range as a guaranteed distance in every setting. Test with the pen close to the phone. Magnetic or metal objects nearby, and some third-party cases or accessories, can interfere.

Temporarily remove third-party covers or accessories and retest, taking them off one at a time. This helps identify a specific source of interference without assuming every case or screen protector causes a problem.
Reset the S Pen and restart the phone
If the connection still fails after the basic checks, reset the S Pen from its settings:

- Insert the S Pen fully into the phone.
- Go to Settings > Advanced features > S Pen > Air actions.
- Tap More options (the three-dot menu), then tap Reset S Pen.
- Keep the pen inserted while the phone reconnects it, then test Air actions again.
Resetting returns customized remote-feature settings to their defaults. If the connection remains unreliable, restart the phone and test once more.

Check whether the pen or phone is at fault
If you can, cross-test with another compatible device or try another compatible S Pen on the S22 Ultra. Compare the same function in each test: a pen that writes may not support Air actions. If the S Pen fails on another compatible device, or a known-compatible pen also fails with the S22 Ultra after these checks, contact Samsung about service or replacement rather than assuming a reset can fix a hardware fault.

Which S Pens work with the Galaxy S22 Ultra?
Samsung describes the S22 Ultra S Pen as designed for that phone. Compatibility and feature support differ by model:
