To pair your phone again, turn on Bluetooth on the phone, put the Pioneer stereo in its add- or register-device mode, then select the phone or stereo and approve the pairing prompt. The exact menu labels and confirmation method depend on your receiver model, so use these steps as a general guide rather than a universal button sequence.
Pair the phone with the Pioneer stereo
- Park safely first. Operate the stereo’s Bluetooth menus only when it is safe to do so. A Pioneer operation manual instructs drivers to park safely and apply the parking brake before using the Bluetooth connection menu. See the manual’s safety instructions.
- Enable Bluetooth on your phone. Keep the phone’s Bluetooth settings open so you can see available devices and respond to a prompt.
- Open the stereo’s Bluetooth or phone settings and choose its add-device option. Depending on the Pioneer model, this may be labeled
ADD DEVICEunderBT SETTING, or appear under a phone or Bluetooth menu. The FH-X789BT and another Pioneer manual document anADD DEVICEflow; controls and paths differ by model. FH-X789BT manual · DEH-S720DAB manual. - Choose which device to connect from. Select your phone from the stereo’s discovered-device list, or select the receiver from the phone’s Bluetooth list. One Pioneer manual identifies the receiver as
Pioneer BT Unit; your stereo may show a different name. - Approve the pairing request. Follow the prompt shown on both devices. On the FH-X789BT, the phone should display the same six-digit number as the stereo, and the user confirms with “Yes.” Another model’s manual describes entering
0000as the default PIN for its connection flow. These are model-specific methods, not interchangeable universal codes. If neither prompt matches, check your exact receiver manual rather than guessing. - Retry the search if needed. If the phone does not appear in the receiver’s list, check that phone Bluetooth is enabled and that the receiver is still in add-device mode. On the FH-X789BT, choose
RE-SEARCHto scan again when the desired device is missing.
What the reset may have changed
A reset does not necessarily erase saved Bluetooth pairings on every Pioneer stereo. The manuals for the models covered here explain registration and connection procedures, but do not establish one reset behavior for all models or reset types. If your old phone still appears in the stereo’s device list, use that model’s instructions to reconnect it or delete its entry before pairing again.
Troubleshoot pairing problems
The stereo cannot find the phone
- Confirm Bluetooth is on and visible on the phone, then start the receiver’s add/register-device process again.
- Use the receiver’s search-again option if it has one. The FH-X789BT calls this
RE-SEARCH. - If the stereo does not appear in the phone’s device list, consult the exact model’s manual for any visibility setting or receiver-side pairing procedure.
The stereo says its device list is full
Use the receiver’s device-management menu to remove an old registration only as directed by the manual for that model. Capacity is not uniform: the FH-X789BT manual describes a limit of three already-paired devices for its procedure, while another Pioneer manual gives a limit of ten. Neither figure should be assumed for other models.

Pairing fails when another device is connected
One Pioneer operation manual cautions against connecting more than one Bluetooth device at once in the circumstances it describes, such as using a phone alongside a separate audio player. Treat that as guidance for the model covered by the manual, not a rule for all Pioneer stereos.

Find the instructions for your exact stereo
Pioneer receivers use different menu controls, labels, pairing prompts, and device limits. A manual written for a rotary-dial receiver may not match a touchscreen model. Find the model number on the unit or its documentation, then look up the matching manual through Pioneer Electronics USA support or the appropriate regional Pioneer site. Follow that manual’s Bluetooth registration and device-management instructions.
