The best approach is to organize lessons as a searchable library first, then build a separate, coherent 24/7 broadcast from that library. Catalog recordings by exam, subject, and syllabus unit; publish focused lessons in playlists; retain separate copies for replay and backup; and treat the nonstop stream as a scheduled program, not as the only way students can find a lesson.

Build a lesson library before building the stream

A continuous feed is useful for students who want to tune in, but it is a poor substitute for a structured video library: viewers may arrive partway through a lesson, and a long broadcast is difficult to search. Keep two related assets: individual lesson videos that students can locate directly, and a live rotation that gives the channel an ongoing program.

Create a master catalog

Before uploading, assign each recording a stable lesson ID and record its exam or board, subject, syllabus unit or learning objective, lesson number, title, duration, recording date, rights-clearance status, and any caption or correction needs. This is a practical editorial scheme, not a taxonomy prescribed by YouTube. A spreadsheet or catalog with these fields makes it easier to spot gaps, build playlists, and update lessons when the syllabus changes.

Preserve original and edited files

Keep the original recording and any edited master in a separately backed-up location. Do not make the 24/7 broadcast the only copy of the teaching material. If a lesson needs a correction, caption update, or replacement, the source file gives you a clean way to produce a new individual upload without depending on a replay of the live feed.

Make individual lessons easy to find

Use focused video units and consistent titles

Where practical, publish one focused lesson per video. Use a predictable title pattern such as Exam | Subject | Unit | Lesson: Topic, putting the most important context first. For example, a title might identify the exam, the subject, the syllabus unit, and then the specific concept covered. Avoid implying endorsement by an exam body unless that relationship is real.

Build playlists at more than one level

Start with one playlist for each exam or board and one for each subject or major syllabus area. If the catalog is large, add unit-level playlists. Order lessons according to the relevant syllabus when that is the intention; if the order is thematic, chronological, or based on popularity instead, say so in the playlist description.

YouTube’s Full live production guide recommends placing completed streams in relevant channel playlists and keeping a “Live Archives” shelf. That archive shelf complements, but does not replace, the playlists for individual lessons.

Design the 24/7 rotation as its own program

Sequence lessons for a useful loop

Arrange the recordings so a viewer joining at different times can make sense of the rotation. A practical sequence is to group by exam and subject, then follow syllabus order within each group. If the stream rotates between subjects or exams, make the pattern clear in the stream description or schedule. Add a short slate between lessons with the exam, subject, unit, and directions for finding the standalone lesson.

Tell viewers what is playing and what comes next

Publish a schedule or a “now playing / next” description if the feed follows a deliberate rotation. Do not rely on the live player alone to explain where a lesson belongs in the course; link the program back to the individual lesson playlists on the channel.

Confirm YouTube access and test the full setup

  1. Verify live access. YouTube’s live-stream setup guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. Check the account before planning a launch.
  2. Choose an encoder workflow. YouTube supports encoder streaming for live delivery. Google’s API documentation describes a 24/7 broadcast model in which an ongoing broadcast can stay live while another broadcast is made from the same stream; that establishes a platform model, not a beginner encoder configuration or an endorsement of a specific provider. See Understanding Broadcasts and Streams.
  3. Check capacity if you operate multiple feeds. The YouTube setup page lists a maximum of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key. These platform limits can change, so confirm the current guidance before adding parallel streams.
  4. Run a private end-to-end test. The Google Live Streaming Guide recommends testing the full setup privately. Check the encoder input, account destination, audio, video, and connection, then confirm that the public feed is behaving as intended after launch.

Clear rights before lessons enter the rotation

Copyright clearance applies to the whole program, not only the lecturer’s camera feed. YouTube says, “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” If matched material remains in a stream, YouTube may interrupt or terminate it. Review lecture slides, clips, music, question-bank images, and other inserted assets as well as the recorded lesson itself. The relevant policy is YouTube’s Copyright issues with live streams.

If you have a license for third-party material, confirm that it covers live transmission and any archive or VOD use. YouTube notes that a rights holder may also need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist; a stream can still be interrupted when licensed material is not allowlisted. Retain permission records in the catalog or a linked rights ledger.

Plan archives independently of the live feed

Google’s Full live production guide says streams up to 12 hours will automatically be turned into video-on-demand and advises teams to record longer streams and manually upload them if they need a VOD copy. A 24/7 broadcast exceeds that duration, so retain the source lessons and publish them individually; make a separate recording plan if you need a full replay of the continuous program. The guidance is for live productions, and YouTube behavior may change, so check the current platform instructions before relying on automatic archiving.

When a lesson changes, update its individual upload and the relevant playlists, then adjust the rotation if needed. This keeps the searchable library current even when the live broadcast is already running.

Set the audience designation accurately

Choose the audience setting based on who the content is actually intended for, not on which features you want enabled. YouTube’s guidance on avoiding live-streaming restrictions explains that designating content as made for kids disables or restricts features including live chat, chat replay, comments, and reminders; personalized ads are disabled on live streams and Premieres, though contextual ads may appear. Account for those feature effects in the program design while keeping the designation accurate.

Choose how to keep the feed running

YouTube supports encoder streaming, but it does not require a dedicated hardware encoder. A local software encoder, dedicated hardware, or a hosted cloud workflow can all be considered as operating choices; the available platform guidance does not establish product-by-product reliability or comparative results.

  • Local software: decide who will keep the computer, encoder, and internet connection running and monitor them.
  • Dedicated hardware: consider whether the additional equipment and operating cost are worthwhile; hardware is not a platform requirement.
  • Hosted or cloud workflow: weigh the ongoing service cost against not having to keep a home computer and connection running, and check how it handles sequencing, monitoring, recovery, and source-file retention.

Or let it run in the cloud

StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos: upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Each slot streams the uploaded material as made, up to 4K 60fps, for one flat price per slot; it includes 10 GB of storage per slot, pooled across active slots, 24/7 looping and playlists, and automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. The service is for uploaded videos and YouTube streaming, not camera-based live production. See StreamNeo.

Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Start your free first day with StreamNeo.
