To run a YouTube channel around the clock when your library mixes landscape and portrait videos, plan two things separately: the order and timing of the videos, and how each video will be framed in the stream. YouTube Live Control Room can send horizontal and vertical versions of a live stream at the same time, but it does not automatically turn a mixed-aspect prerecorded playlist into a polished 24/7 channel. Choose and test a playback workflow, then check every asset in the layout where viewers will see it.
Build a schedule that accounts for both content and framing
Start with a simple content sheet. For each asset, record its title, runtime, aspect ratio, place in the rotation, intended audience or program block, and layout choice for each output. Add any transition, title card, or slate you plan to use. This is an editorial planning method, not a schedule format prescribed by YouTube.
| Video | Runtime | Aspect ratio | Program block/order | Horizontal treatment | Vertical treatment |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Example: music video A | Record actual runtime | 16:9 landscape | Opening block | Use original framing | Preview crop, fit, or stacked layout |
| Example: short B | Record actual runtime | 9:16 portrait | Between longer items | Design a background, side panel, or slate in the playback/editing workflow | Use portrait framing |
Group videos by purpose or mood, then distribute repeated titles and longer items deliberately. Record the planned sequence and check the approximate length of a full rotation so you know what viewers will encounter when they join at different times. YouTube’s official help pages do not prescribe a mixed-aspect 24/7 playlist recipe; rotation length, pacing, transitions, and repetition are your editorial decisions.
Choose a treatment for each aspect ratio
Landscape video in a vertical stream
YouTube says Live Control Room can provide horizontal 16:9 and vertical 9:16 outputs simultaneously by default. The vertical version uses a center crop by default. YouTube also documents center-crop, fit-to-phone-width, and stacked layout options, with controls to adjust zoom and position. See YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming.

A center crop can remove people, captions, text, or action near the sides of a landscape frame. Preview each important clip and adjust zoom or position where available. Compare the available layouts by checking whether key details remain visible, how much of the original composition survives, and whether the result makes sense on a phone. Do not assume one setting will frame every prerecorded clip well.
Portrait video in a horizontal stream
A portrait image placed directly in a horizontal canvas leaves a composition problem that the cited YouTube dual-format guidance does not solve for you. In your encoder or editing workflow, decide whether to use a designed background or side panel, place the portrait video within a title-card or slate design, or prepare a separate horizontal version. Preview the result at the intended viewing size and make sure text and faces remain legible.

- Professional digital signage: The Amazon Signage Stick auto-launches your CMS in kiosk mode for seamless, unattended operation.
- Easy setup: Setup one or multiple Signage Sticks with the free Amazon Signage app. No tech skills needed.
- Works with over 80+ content management systems (CMS subscription may be required).
- Secure by design: Secure boot and encrypted storage keep your signage protected and running smoothly.
- Manage on the go: Create profiles, organize by location, and monitor real-time right from your phone.
Keep the layout plan with the schedule
Write the chosen treatment beside each video in your content sheet. If the playback workflow supports per-clip layout changes, confirm that those changes happen at the right point in the sequence. If it does not, prepare assets to a consistent canvas before scheduling. The official YouTube material cited here explains live output layouts, not automatic per-video reframing for a continuous prerecorded rotation.

Schedule the YouTube livestream and connect your encoder
- Confirm live-stream eligibility. Check that your channel can use YouTube Live and choose a supported streaming method. YouTube describes the available methods and eligibility in Get started with live streaming.
- Create the scheduled stream. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and use the Manage tab to schedule the stream. Set its title and other planned metadata. You can reuse settings when appropriate. A scheduled stream can appear to viewers as upcoming; they can share its page and request a reminder. For the current scheduling flow, see Manage live stream settings and Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Connect the encoder. Use the stream URL and stream key shown in Live Control Room in the encoder or playback workflow you have chosen. Treat the key as a credential: do not publish it, include it in a public playlist or document, or send it to anyone who should not be able to send video to your stream.
- Check the incoming preview before going public. Confirm the correct stream is connected, the first video is framed as planned, and audio and transitions behave as expected. Do not rely on the scheduled page alone as proof that your video source is playing correctly.
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That archive rule is not evidence that a single 24/7 broadcast will play continuously or restart seamlessly. Confirm how your selected encoder and playback software handle disconnects, stream endings, and reconnections before depending on it for continuous operation. See YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

This is a Hexa 6 Quad Core ARM Cortex-A73 (1.7Ghz) + Dual Core ARM Cortex-A53 (1.8Ghz) dedicated Digital Signage player. Loaded with our special baked Android OS & custom built in Watchdog. The device supports both vertical and horizontal screen modes. With 16GB storage of local storage cache, it ensures there is never any playback interruption.
Test the rotation and plan for interruptions
Before launch, test the exact sequence—not just a sample file. YouTube recommends testing before a stream, previewing the output, monitoring stream quality, and checking local archive files. Its guidance also recommends testing encoder failover. See Streaming tips, Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions, and YouTube live streaming tips – Computer.
- Watch landscape and portrait examples in both horizontal and vertical outputs, where available. Check faces, text, important action, borders, and any blank areas.
- Listen through transitions and across clips to catch unexpected silence, abrupt level changes, or missing audio.
- Verify that the playback workflow advances through the intended sequence and handles the end of the rotation as expected.
- Monitor stream health during the test and check that any local archive files you rely on are present and growing as expected.
- Simulate or otherwise verify what happens after a network or encoder interruption. Establish who will notice a failure and what action restores the stream.
For a channel intended to stay live all day, turn those checks into a recurring operator routine. The official help pages do not establish a specific automated method for converting a mixed-aspect video library into an uninterrupted 24/7 YouTube channel, so validate the continuity behavior of your actual tools rather than assuming it.

Keep the video library and archives organized
Use consistent filenames or a simple asset register that connects each file to its runtime, aspect ratio, schedule position, and layout notes. Keep working copies and any local archive files in a location with enough available space. YouTube advises checking local archive-file integrity and confirming that file sizes are growing during a stream; external storage is an optional way to organize assets or archive copies, not a YouTube requirement. See YouTube Help: Streaming tips.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsOr let it run in the cloud
For the do-it-yourself route, your playback software and encoder must keep the rotation running and reconnect appropriately. StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It streams each upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot regardless of quality; it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or review the copyright safety checklist before choosing videos for a continuous stream. Start your free StreamNeo day.
