To order a product sample for a manual-mode store, open the Printful account connected to your store, then go to Billing → Discounts → Order a sample now. Choose a product, add your design, select shipping, and pay in Printful. You can track production and delivery in the Printful dashboard.
Order a sample through the Printful account connected to your store
- Open Printful. From the print-on-demand screen in your store, select Manage Printful account. You can also sign in to the Printful account connected to the store. Make sure it is the right account before placing the order.
- Find the sample option. In Printful, open Billing → Discounts, then choose Order a sample now.
- Customize the product. Select a catalog product and apply the design you want to check. Printful requires a design on sample items; blank products are not available through its sample program, and samples are not for resale. See Printful’s sample-order information.
- Complete checkout. Add the item to your cart, choose a shipping method, and pay at Printful checkout. A sample order is a direct Printful payment, separate from a customer’s purchase through your store.
- Follow the order. Check the Printful dashboard for production, shipping, and delivery updates.
Check eligibility and the sample discount before ordering
Printful says sample orders are available to ecommerce store owners with a connected store, but the option may not be available to every account. After connecting a store, eligibility begins the following month. Check Billing → Discounts in your account for the offer currently available to you.
Printful’s Help Center lists a 20% sample-order discount and an account-dependent monthly allowance. The schedule below reflects the policy page accessed on October 7, 2026; confirm your account’s current offer before relying on a quota or discount.

Printful says the allowance resets on the first day of each calendar month, calculated in UTC; unused orders do not roll over. The sample discount cannot be combined with Growth plan discounts, coupon codes, or gift cards. These terms come from Printful’s sample-order policy, whose page was undated when accessed on October 7, 2026.

If “Order a sample now” is missing
- Confirm that the store is connected to the Printful account you are signed into.
- Check Billing → Discounts for the offer and account eligibility. If the store was just connected, Printful says sample eligibility starts the following month.
- If you need to place a manual order without the sample offer, use New order in Printful and create a Basic order, as described in Printful’s manual-order instructions. This is an ordinary paid order, not a sample order, and it does not include the sample discount or bypass sample limits.

What to check when the sample arrives
A physical sample can help you assess product quality, print, fabric, packaging, and how the design looks in person. It can also help you make real product and marketing photos and experience the order journey from production through delivery. Those are practical reasons to inspect the item before promoting it, not a guarantee that every product will meet a particular standard.

What happens when you prepare the store listing
Ordering a sample does not itself publish a product. Products created through Printful are automatically published to the store, though syncing can take a few minutes; you can trigger a manual sync if a new product does not appear. Product edits also behave differently depending on where you make them: store-manager changes generally do not sync back to Printful except for the product name, while Printful-side edits sync to the store except for price changes.
For customer sales, the customer pays your store through its configured payment setup, while Printful separately charges you for fulfillment and shipping through your selected Printful billing method. A sample, by contrast, is paid directly at Printful checkout.
